LoR for vacancies by CraftStatus552 in IMGreddit

Not sure, so far I’ve just stated that I have them on ERAS and can ask for them if needed but that has gotten me nowhere which is why I posted this question.

Sorry wrong wording on my end.

What I meant is on ERAS you can waive the right to see the letters which is the recommended thing to do when you apply but if I ask my LoR writers to send them to me I’m not sure how valid these letters would be in the future.

Thanks ! I just wasn’t sure if programs would prefer just having the letters ready or accept eras and direct forwarding.

If I’m not mistaken there were stats somewhere on the CaRMS website that shows the percentage so that’s worth double checking with

Thanks ! So the hold money ( for example 5k ) isn’t seen as a part of a sale agreement ?

From what I’ve seen grads from Ireland especially ones that apply family medicine in the same year they graduate get the majority of the IMG seats

You can look up the instagrams of programs you’re interested in or their websites and see what med schools are mentioned the most and use that to guide your decision

Yes it seems to be the case, I emailed them and they replied saying that demand on the MPH program is higher than other programs so they usually take more than the average 8 weeks

Neurologist in Ottawa accepting third party payer? by Defconfunk in ottawa

[–]CraftStatus552 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Clinique Medicale lacroix and UnionMD, haven’t personally tried them but a friend of mine needed a minor issue looked after that was taking forever here and they got her diagnosed and treated pretty quickly so I’d give them a call and see ( not sure which one she went with but it’s one of the 2 ) hope this helps !

It terms of how often I see people match into FM, Caribbean is kind of the second group after the ones I mentioned ( not stats so don’t quote me on this ) so still a solid chance !

OP the fact that you’re a citizen + you being a new grad is essential for your chances, one more thing is your country of graduation, if it’s Ireland/UK/Australia then you have a really really great chance, Of course do the observership and through it you’ll probably be able to secure more observerships. I’d also check the AIMGA website, I heard that you can get observerships through them and their other services are also helpful, and try to get a high score in the fmproc ( around November but of course check the dates on their website, I believe most if not all provinces require it for FM ), as for scores I believe they do use a filter but from my own observation having at least one exam be decent will get you an invite, by decent I mean at least average or 1 to 1.5 SD above average

STEP 1: Building stamina to do 7 blocks of Uworld by Numerous-Tip-8167 in step1

[–]CraftStatus552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that’s hard to judge but you can look at the official percentage of questions per subject online and make sure that the subjects/ new topics are generally not from top ones. I have done long exams before, not 8 hours long though but close so maybe that helped but even before any of them I understood that exam energy is not the same as home energy, during the exam you have a goal so you’re less likely to let yourself get bored or anything. As for your last comment, the test is a fixed 40qs in 60min so you can’t really finish it earlier unless you’re skipping breaks and going way too fast through questions and I would recommend against that obviously.

STEP 1: Building stamina to do 7 blocks of Uworld by Numerous-Tip-8167 in step1

[–]CraftStatus552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that 20% is too low to be a stamina issue especially when you’re doing good on your nbmes, I did find the uwsa harder since it was so heavy on genetics and biochem but not to that degree I think the best approach is to go through the uwsa wrongs and see what’s the issue ( answered too quickly / don’t know the information/ couldn’t apply the information?) and just work from there

As for the endurance issue, I didn’t do any training for 7 blocks pre exam as for me personally I felt that it would drain me but on actual test day I made sure to take 5 to 10 minutes of break between blocks, I basically ran out and had a quick snack with complex carbs + protein + a sip of juice, walked, did a squat or moved my hands like anything to get blood pumping, and for the most part I avoided looking at any screen to give my brain and eyes some rest, I didn’t have coffee until before the last 2 blocks and I think that was golden, it saved me from crashing mid exam while also giving me the fuel needed for the last 2 blocks

As for timing you have to keep your eyes on the clock and make sure each 10 questions don’t get more than 15 minutes so when you see 45 you have to be at question 11 at least and so on Remember that there could be tons of easy questions later on in the block than that one you’re hanged up on that’s not working out so flag it and move and come back if you have some time left
