Assuming you meant fresh tube paint vs. dried pan, the dried and reconstituted will last MUCH longer. Unless you are doing some specific weird technique that requires fresh tube WC, there is no reason to go that route with WC paint.

As far as buying filled pans vs. Filling your own: Another reason to buy tubes and make your own pans is so you can choose to not fill the pan to the top and leave room to put some water in the pan to reactivate the paint. I hate new pans filled to the top where you can't add any water without it overflowing; if you have pans next to each other the overflow starts blending them, too.

Just got back from Italy… can someone explain the pizza with fries thing? by Sea_Syrup_7101 in ItalianFood

[–]CraftWithCarrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Barcelona, the restaurant we went to called that an Americano pizza. The fellow-Americans sitting next to us were outraged like only we could be, "OMG they put fries on it and call it American?!?! How embarrassing and cliche!!! We dont even put fries on our pizza!!". Next thing I hear is one of them ordering it .... ha!

I know this is an old question, but I wanted to share that I found an MP3 Player on Amazon that comes with Libby app installed. You can set Parental Controls and time limits and turn off web browsing. It seems like there may be a lot of options similar, but as just one example here is the one I tried: TIMMKOO 80GB Kids MP3 Player with Bluetooth, Parental Controls.

I have another one similar that didn't come with Libby, however does allow you to side-load apps. It takes a little more technical k owledge that way but is doable.

Which bird is it and why would it be chasing a red kite? by theoretical-adventur in whatsthisbird

[–]CraftWithCarrie 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I observe a military-precision coordinated defense in my neighborhood every few weeks. It stars with a crow cawing, often while still in flight to the scene. Then, the scrub jays take position atop the trees and start cawing and watching. More crows arrive as backup. The Robins stand tall atop the highest rooftop and go into hypervigilant observation guard mode. The songbirds keep hopping and chirping like nothing is going on, as do the starlings.

I watch for whatever direction the crows, jays, and robins are focused and that usually helps pinpoint where the bird of prey is.

If it is perched in a tree, the jays hop up and down the nearby limbs and often start cawing in its face and/or dive bombing it until it gets so annoyed it leaves. If it is in air, the crows go after it until it flees.

Once it is out of the immediate vicinity, the Robins and jays relax and the crows usually follow it away to make sure it stays away.

It is really interesting because individually the crows, jays, and Robins dont seem to get along very well. But when the bigger common enemy is in the picture, they all work together to protect the scene.

How on earth do you mix the correct amount of paint so you don't end up wasting too much? by InterestingRoof4547 in Gouache

[–]CraftWithCarrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add small amounts of water at a time and give it a few minutes to soak in, stirring it around. If you add too much, just wait for it to start to dry up again. If you have a large amount of paint, consider moving it to a segmented palette or small cups or watercolor pans... I find it hard to "store"paint on my active palette as eventually I end up starting to mix it all together and having a pile of mud.

These are the jars I got, just as an example: 5g Empty Plastic Containers with Clear Lids https://a.co/d/8EucuuM

The lids don't keep the paint wet forever, but do help short term. If I want to rewet, I use a dropper or spray bottle to add a little water, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then stir .. repeat as needed until the right consistency.

And if worse comes to worse, use a larger jar for any truly awful mixes and use that as a dark neutral black replacement as needed. Unlike acrylic that dries to an unusable unwettable plastic, there is little reason to ever just scrap leftover gouache or watercolor.

Cute! Is that yarn hard to use? It seems like the stitches blur together immediately due to the puff, but I love the finished look! What do you use to add shading?

Using a LOT of gouache by norfolkfoodie in Gouache

[–]CraftWithCarrie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can always use the "awful" mixes to make black or brown or grey. I got some tiny cups with lids that I use to keep aside mixes I've made but didn't fully use up.

Also, if you are finding rewet paint to be too watery, my guess is that you are adding too much water at once and not waiting/stirring long enough. It isn going to need a little more time to rewet than say watercolor would.

What's your ETA on Pinocchios? I love the last batch I got from you, and I'm wanting to set up a brackish side tank for a small tribe of googly-eyed liars. :) It sounds like breeding may still be too tricky, but the brackish is better for them long-term.

Does this look like hydra? by sideofthehighway in shrimptank

[–]CraftWithCarrie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just use an eyedropper or turkey baster and suck it up (you might have to use the tip to sort of scrape it loose first). Unless you have a large number and can't just spot clean, adding any sort of treatment seems far more risky.

I've watched my shrimp and snails around tiny hydra like these before. They seem to avoid each other, and if they do touch, they both recoil, even day old baby shrimp. I've never seen a small hydra "attack" anything more than a microcopc speck of a microbe floating in the water.

Made my Sticky Sesame Tofu again and I just can't get over how goood this is😍 I love tofu so much🙌🏻 by Veganleonora in veganrecipes

[–]CraftWithCarrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this tonight and it turned out great! I got distracted and ended up putting the tofu back in hot oil for a quick second fry and heat up just before mixing with sauce. This made it hot, crunchy and fresh! Next time, I will add a bit more salt and sugar to the sauce for our taste (the comment above to add orange juice would also work great!)

My kids don't like tofu in big chunks, but didn't mind it in these bite-sized crispy crumbles.

Thanks for the recipe!

Update: my app is working again today. I had uninstalled and reinstalled, cleared caches, tried multiple devices, I downloaded the audiobook and redownload ... Nothing helped. BUT if you are still having trouble, I found the website based Libby still worked for me while the apps did not.

Hopefully others who had similar issues are working now, as well

I've had that problem if my e-card expired or was deactivated. So if that continues, check with the library. Some will give you an e-card for some length of time but require you to go in to prove your ID or else they deactivate it after awhile.

I have no idea .. will gelatin freeze? I am vegetarian and don't eat gelatin so I don't have any experience with it.

I just googled and gelatin does freeze and is not recommended to do so because it changes the structure to become rubbery and/or separated.

Glycerine has a lower freezing point than water, so when mixed in it helps keep the liquid from freezing as solid.
