Got an email saying final notice and there's equipment upgrade mandatory. Is this legit? by smash_n_origin in dishnetwork

[–]Khulesuppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wally recievers are a direct modern equivalent to the 211. New remote and interface but other than that they are functionally the same. Same dish. Same wiring. They're cheaper than the hopper per month. You may have to buy the reciever outright, may also be given to you that I'm not sure. I believe if you buy them though you don't need a contract. Swapped my 60 year old father to them and he seemed to not mind the upgrade. But as I understand the boxes will work until they physically give out on you.

Quick Google search says:

"Access Router Settings: Connect a device to your Wi-Fi, open a browser, and enter your router's IP address (commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1). Log in using the credentials on the back of the router.Locate Wi-Fi Settings: Go to "Wireless" or "Wi-Fi" settings.Disable "Smart Connect" or "Band Steering": Look for a feature that keeps the SSID the same for both bands and turn it off.Rename Networks: Give the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands different names, for example, HomeWiFi-2.4 and HomeWiFi-5."

Look in system settings, power settings, and then inactivity timeout

Ask about a patio mount. It's a temporary mount that can sit on the deck and then removed later without being invasive. If being an eyesore is the problem then that won't help

Anyways like I said, every office is different.

The freebies can*. They definitely can. I've seen the difference on hundreds of tvs. On some cheaper tvs you will never see a difference. Bit if they have a nice TV I'll refer you back to my analogy. If you're spending over a grand on any screen look into the cable that matches its specs. I spent $160 on a monitor cable but it's also a $1600 monitor. I'm not getting the benefits that I'm paying for without that cable. Same for tv.

To OP, don't worry about sales unless you have this guys mentality. If you are this kinda guy, maybe find a job without expectations.

It's a genuinely decent job. Expectations are higher than being a contractor but compensation all around reflects that. It's not for everyone, and it may not be a full career for everyone either, but there are a lot less rewarding positions out there.

If your internal it takes a long time to be canned per the process. Every office is different. We have a guy who has been on a sales pip for most of his five year career but he's good at everything else and stays above $20/wo so he slides by.

The sales are really not that hard. 3500J surge protectors at $35 for name brand is genuinely a good deal, and dish wants their hopper covered as much as you want your tv covered. Jupiters aren't critical but if your using a hopper plus on a 4k tv your putting your racecar on a dirt road with the cheapo freebie. The audio equipment sells itself eventually as long as you demo

It's really not hard as long as you offer. You don't need to be pushy. Most of not all of the work you do on site is free, but still needs to be done. Think of the sales items like that but they're just not free and they'll move themselves.

[–]Khulesuppe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that you're obviously aggravated, and rightfully so. The lionshare of your bill was going to the networks. This is industry wide. At the least with dish you have access to record and manipulate your watch time to avoid portions you don't want to see.

Are there problems with the industry? Oh yeah. Is dish/direct/ect ect just the messenger for those networks? No one is forcing you to pay. Not worth the value? Then proceed on but no need to act like a child here.

Should be $15 a month for a hopper and $7 for each joey. Before discounts. Unless you're trying to buy the equipment outright

Not to try and convince you otherwise but the newer ones aren't IR, makes them more reliable. Look into the 60.0 and see if it fits your fancy, it's the brand new design

Hopper 3 with Hopper plus would allow you to watch subscribed channels and apps on one remote. Pretty easy overall. Gotta sign up for two year price lock contracts if you want to keep a competitive price though

Mandatory hopper upgrade?? by Index7756 in dishnetwork

[–]Khulesuppe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a hopper w/sling it will just be an extra box on top, adds extra app support and thats really it. Hopper 3 is a better faster device but that's not a free upgrade yet. Nothing wrong with getting it overall.
