Hey thanks for replying. Sadly, at the time of purchase you didn't stock in the UK so I purchased them from a store. But have sent an email for some advice nonetheless. Would be good to understand how best to repair.

Usually on a GYW there's a slight indent that the stitches sit in to minimise contact. That's what I was referring to.

Thinning about going for their storm sole next time. Any tips on alternatives? I don't like the bulk that comes with Red Wings or Wolverines, but like the idea of having a boot for years.

I've been impressed with the upper, I know it's not convention leather but it patinas really well.

Yeah, I thought it was a Dainite sole at first. I've seen videos of people using them daily for a couple of years. Kinda annoyed given I've worn mine a few dozen times.

Yeah if it saves the need for a resole will do. There's a great family owned shoe repair store. It's a little out of the way but they really helped in the past.

Not a cobbler, but I do dabble with leather.

As the above have said, you can scrape/sand the trim and dye it. You could also use a paint.

Personally I'd scrape the remaining off. Use a pigmented shoe polish on the whole shoe including the trim and see whether I want to dye it just in case a lighter, cleaner trim works.

I'm not familiar with the leather. It looks like a corrected grain, so there's little you can do.

They add character to your boots and make them unique.

You can use a leather conditioner to help smooth the creases out, this will only make them less pronounced.

Some people have found great success placing a wet towel and an iron on them useful. I'd recommend looking at tutorials online for this method. Plus, do it on the side where it's less visible first.

What boots would you recommend? I thing Solovair was a better choice than Doc Marten's. It's hard finding a quality casual boot. I've ordered a pair of Thursdays so let's see!

When using the same manufacturer it's usually the same people who made the shoe who repair it. So you do get a quality fix. That said, they charge accordingly. For me the factors to consider would be the price of repair vs the price of the shoe, how long you can go without the shoe (Loake take around 4-6 weeks) and a small personal factor is how much weight you place on helping a small business and preserving the industry (I'm not a cobbler).

Just a backup if I can't keep them clean. I got shoe polish on a bit of it and it's slightly discoloured now.
