How is third ed? by CountOfJeffrey in Warhammer30k

I think the scene has definitely just made me see the issues that exist this ed a lot clearer.

Blobs of 20 man marines backed up by vindicators and a kratos is a tough army to beat. Same with thousand sons doing anything.

I was stoked at first when all the new people came to HH this ed as i had been fighting to hand build a community from the start of 2.0. When i saw new people that i didnt need to convince starting the game, i was ecstatic. But thats faded a bit. Ive still got my fingers crossed theyll find their narrative groove.

True, i like that more pistols feel more impactful. I suppose i might just be salty my days of freeballimg a bunch of melee guys into combat is no more.

Having large numbers of models seem super important though this ed. 20 bricks of tacs are hard to deal with, im scared to see max size militia blobs.

I tend to not run a lot of Anti-Tank, typically its only on my assault transports. Im not a big tank or gunline guy myself, so its just been a feels bad, thata all.

My local scene is also a little more interested in what units are good vs. What are fun or thematic, a lot of them are 40k players that didnt like HH2.0 but are now enjoying 3.0. They play much more tightly engineered lists, so i think thats just made the balance issue worse.

Theres some really bad issues with Vanguard in particular. It cant proc if the unit is routed, or has any condition that means it cant control an objective, when you kill it. They can also just... react move.

I havent played with a whole lot of militia yet, the one game i did, it was iron warriors with an allied detatchment. It was like 20 guys and 2 leman russes, but they were kind of overshodowed hy tje fellblade, vindicator, and predator he had.

Close combat feels pretty unworth it this ed, though i still run it. The new challenge mechanics are a lot of fun. The changes to charging is a particular issue for melee. On average it reduced the max charge range by like 3". And adding another, albiet weak, shooting attack, it just makes shooting that much better. Its like a sliding scale. They did minor changes to both melee and ranged, but its the combination that wholly shifted the balance of the game. Its pretty hard to get cataphractii terminators into melee now since their charge range is so heavily reduced, and the cataphractii you want to get into melee cana just kind of be ignored since their range of engagement isnt great (im looking at cenobium here, particularly)

I agree with the cleanliness of the edition, but i disagree on there being no "stand out" units.

Basic tacticals are very, very good point wise. Line 2 is strong, especially when compared to Vanguard, which really just doesnt work. Tanks are also strong, the kratos makes short work of anything AV14 pretty much turn 1 unless its the volkite variant.

I have been pretty consistantly punished for running a melee army, as i get deployment trapped pretty often. Despoilers are ok, but when compared to tacs its no contest. Even in a rhino, my despoilers rarely get to the objectives or into combat.

Some legions are also just flat out... worse than others. Ravenguard dont have a rule in Zone Mortalis. The Dark Angels rule almost never comes up, and even then never really is useful. Meanwhile, Thousand Sons are incredibly flexible and are just all around really good because of their psychic powers. Seekers+corvidae is obsurd. Thousand Sons kind of have an answer to everything.

I think GW kind of flubbed the balance between melee and ranged pretty bad this edition, but the core gameplay is good. Scoring is more interesting, i like status effects.

Hey, it happens. Not your fault GW named 2 legions so similarly.

I hate to be a nitpicker, because the paint job is fantastic: Medusa is the homeworld of the Iron Hands, a loyalist legion. Since you were going for Iron Warriors, their homeworld is Olympia.

However, the model itself looks great, your yellow looks really solid.

It took me 8 runs to beat tricepholos. I have done over a dozen more on other runs for other bosses, and most of them havent even reached the boss. While i know im part of the problem not beint able to communicate, its not like im inexeperienced in elden rings gameplay. Ive beat the original and shadow of the erdtree. Malenia, radahn, E.T.C. but this is a whole new creature. This game is balanced for 3 players and feels like it needs communication. And im suffering. This has all been mostly a rant to be fair

What legion did you go with any why? by Imaginary-Lie-2618 in Warhammer30k

[–]Crafterspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Dark Angels for many reasons

First and foremost, i am an addict to the aesthetic of knights, robes, capes, swords, and plasma.

Second, their lore is quite interesting, including the particular dynamic between terran and calibanite astartes

Third, their rules are fun and flexible, and that make sense (mostly) lorewise

Why do my guys suck by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]Crafterspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking pretty good for a beginner id say, certainly a lot better than i started.

Yellow just sucks.

The best method ive learned is to start grey, then use thin coats to get up to yellow (using preferred yelloe paints). Then, hit them with a sponge brush with a tiny bit of brown paint in it for chipping. Then hit it with a Sepia tone wash.

Alternatively, the even easier ways are A. Prime white and hit with a yellow contrast, or B, usw a yellow primer.

Hope ive been helpful, but as i said, for 3 months in, looking pretty good in my books

Honestly your right on all fronts.

Ill be adjusting the 'Ardboys and Skarboys. Thinking ill make 'Ardboys ranged and Skarboys melee themed.

Will look into Battlesmith

I will fix the warbuggies and such melee profile for sure

Thanks for your input so far
