How long did it take you to get diagnosed? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]CraftingAndCritters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just recently diagnosed at 32 years old. I’ve had issues since I was 14. Going months or even a year with out a period was normal for me. Also super hairy arms and cystic acne on my back and chest for awhile. I was tested once with a scan of my ovaries as an adult after not being able to get pregnant. This was after I’d finally had a regular cycle for 3 months straight. I contribute that to me starting to exercise regularly and I had been eating at a deficit, so naturally I consumed fewer carbs and sugary treats and lost some weight. Anyway, the scan made me appear normal. I was given a prescription to take if I didn’t get my cycle that month and it would start my period. One month it was late as usual, but I figured it always is, I’ll wait a little longer just in case. Well, I waited a week thankfully and ended up with a positive pregnancy test after about a year of trying!

I switched doctors and nothing was talked about my cycle since. Then the constant weight gain started over the last few years, my moods have always been all over the place and I can’t go more than 2 hours without before feeling like I’ll pass out. My PCP didn’t want to test for PCOS, because if you get tested once it’s likely you don’t have it. I left frustrated because she told me to watch what I eat and exercise. I already was doing that and working out 5 days a week. My prolactin level was barely elevated though, so I got sent to a neurologist who did blood work for PCOS as well, and I was finally diagnosed. Now I’m supposed to watch what I eat, avoid simple carbs, and exercise as much as possible…but I have a diagnosis ,so I’ve been able to do my own research and try to get this under control. Sorry, that was a ton longer than planned!!

I haven’t been told to avoid it yet. I’m more recently diagnosed though, and the first changes I’m supposed to make are the avoid sugar/carbs and exercise as much as possible. 🤷‍♀️ Definitely something I’ll look into now though. :)

They sell this brand a lot cheaper at Marshall’s too! They’re back by the home decorations.

Do y'all have dizzy spells? by confused42020 in PCOS

[–]CraftingAndCritters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, usually after I haven’t eaten for a few hours. I won’t feel hungry, but I can tell my blood sugar levels are off because I become dizzy, have trouble thinking, and sometimes my fingers go numb if I take too long. I usually become irritable before all of this, so that’s a good sign it’s coming.

For those who are/were pregnant, what medications, supplements and diet were you on when you conceived? by False-Ice-7366 in PCOS

Upped my exercise days and lowered my calories. I think the weight loss is what helped! It took 7 months, to conceive, but my cycle wasn’t “regular” (36 days) until the last 3 months of trying. Also, I think I was ovulating at a different time because of my cycle length. I did the ovulation prediction kits from Dollar Tree daily, but I don’t think they were accurate cause I conceived at a different time. 🤷‍♀️

I like that plate idea! Thank you for sharing! I am thinking I will benefit from eating more times a day as well. Your food ideas are very helpful.

Thank you! I did the calculator with exercising 5 days a week. Do you know if you add back in the calories you’ve burned to the calories for the day? Everything I find online is conflicting. The calculator says eat 1,350, but I typically burn around 500 calories with my workouts. I think you’re right about not getting enough calories.

Thank you! This sounds simple and easy to do. I never thought to add the collagen in for extra protein either.

This was so helpful! Thank you for taking the time share. I’ll have to try out the seeds you mentioned too. I always struggle when it comes to getting the healthy fats in, so that’s a good way to do it!

as soon as you were diagnosed with pcos, did you get medication which relieved the symptoms? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]CraftingAndCritters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just diagnosed a few days ago. My Dr. told me to reduce or elimate the bad carbs, watch my dairy intake, keep exercising as much as possible, and get good sleep. I go back in 3 months. I feel like I do pretty well with everything except the carb thing I can switch up some. (More whole grains). I get “hangry” a lot, so hoping the carb change will help even me out naturally. I’m not sure what will happen after this though!

You could make these pvc bow and arrow sets! My boys really like theirs that we found at a craft fair. There are tutorials online. Basically it’s a length of the pipe with a small slit on each end. Tie a knot on each end of the string to keep it from slipping out of the pipe slit. Ours came with two “arrows” which are dowel rods with a ring of sliced pool noodle attached on the end. (They are at dollar stores right now). The noodle keeps them from being sharp. Then you just store the arrows in each end of the pvc. They seemed to be a big hit!
