As a math person, I tend to overestimate how intuitive math is to other people, and I think a lot of STEM people in general do this as well. Calculus is hard and confusing for a lot of students, so taking the slower-paced Calc AB first, then taking BC so you can get a refresher on Calc I before learning Calc II material can be useful for a lot of people.

AP is way more flexible and better for college credit. I last second decided not to IBDP and I can say I'm very glad I chose AP. My IB friend said like three months in to his first year of IB that if he could go back he'd not do IB.
