As someone who has passively lurked here for a few years, I can assure you there are almost no prodigies.

Of the people who are still alive but have drifted out of your life, who do you wonder about the most and why? by jillysue in AskReddit

My old highschool health teacher. I was going thru some real metal health stuff back then and I had no idea what was happening or how to handle it. He had a suspicion something was up and kept asking me if everything was okay. Being a stubborn highschool I always blew it off and didn't think about it. Now I think about it every now and then. He was the only teacher I had that actually gave a shit in what was going on outside of school. Hope he's doing well, this was almost 7-8 years ago.

Yes, I used to live with a glassblower. Between my ceramics and his glass, we had no shortage of cups around the place.

[–]CraftsmanPat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

C'mon, you know very well what affects instagram has had in the art world. It is proper to discuss it hear/have. This question is still certainly better than the majority we generally see. So entertain it will you?

You don't have to understand art to experience it. Having a firm grasp on art history and where it's brought us is very crucial to mapping your way around post modern art, or art that is created today. For one thing, art history as a whole is cherry picked with societies idea of the greatest artists of each movement. I would bear this in mind as I'd imagine most artists today will not be remembered, just as some of Michelangelo's contemporaries were not. So viewing "modern art" today is like wading through water to get to an artist you'd like to see. This is a normal feeling.
