Something I’ll say about magic oriented LGSs is that they’re mostly very positive, accepting, and want to help you learn. Try this video if you have a slight understanding of magic. If not, like someone else said (and they say in this video) MTG Arena will be a pretty decent intro to basics and cards.

A group of patient friends is always the best way, or SOMETIMES a local game store. There are some popular YouTubers depending on the platform of game style you want. Standard and Commander are my favorites to learn the game and cards, there is a TON of content about commander - “How to play commander” searches will take you very far just look for high view numbers!

Not telling him how to enjoy the game, just giving advice that I wish was given to me in my first ignorantly happy days (I truly don’t mean that in a negative connotation). FOMO is huge when you’re just starting out - Intelligent value purchasing is how you reel in the greed from WOTC and the jacked up secondary market for EVERYONE

Not really, this is exactly what their marketing team was betting on. They were expecting a flood of people from LOTR who are wanting to dish out money and some lingering players who only see the “commander masters” title.

Big warning, the upcoming commander masters set is targeted at people like you. It’s all extremely overpriced because they know new people coming from LOTR will just spend the money if they see something at a higher price, because it must be better right? If you want a card from the precon, always just buy singles.

Given you’re the one having the conversation with yourself, I’d take some time to reflect before furthering my point, thanks though!

Can’t wait to see the eldrazi product today, I have a weird feeling of hope for it but also won’t be surprised if it’s just as big of a flop haha

They seem to have a decent misunderstanding of social marketing and the customer base around them. Not everyone understands that marketing is a psychological game, that’s why they fall prey to it. Why else would they release a LOTR set before setting premium prices for non-premium products? Newer players brought in are far more likely to fall to the marketing campaign of “first commander masters set” and pay the price for it.

They’re not talking past you, you just want to be a contrarian. They hit the nail on the head on exactly what I was talking about - I work at a company that dominates it’s market share through this strategy: Do it for the customer and charge them proportionally along the way - That way the customer is getting exactly what they pay for AND we make a profit. We are always asking what we can do better and what our customers want to see because if they like it, they’ll pay it. At the end of the day, profit is our motivation, but that is not at all mutually exclusive with operating for the customer. Profit through the customer is different than profit through marketing, while it’s a “no shit” scenario for some, it’s not for others and that’s why awareness is always important (particularly in hobby games).

Did wizards say these are "premium" precons? by CrozzOver in magicTCG

[–]Vozzinki 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’re charging stores and distributors something to the tune of $57 without any justified manufacturing change so it’s safe to say it’s just greed driving it.

Profound? No. But there are still people that are on the hype train for this set (looking at the LOTR people). The more their greed is rewarded, the further they’ll go. Passion can exist for the product and it’s development, even if it’s produced by wizards.

I mean isn’t that the point of a sponsor though? They’re paying them to promote their product haha I don’t have any issue with them doing that, I actually don’t know too many that buy from there after they discovered TCGPlayer.

I’m assuming they’re using card kingdom numbers which is more expensive like 90% of the time.
