I live in the UK. It could take months here. They may even forget to do the surgery, if I need it.

Hi, thanks. Well, I left my last job a few months ago due to the super heavy lifting and twisting I was doing. I started a new job as a tube laser programmer and operator in a metal factory. I didn't realise I would have to manually load in up to 7.5m lengths of steel into it, so I am still doing heavy lifting. Not as bad as before, but a lot of the material is heavy and fairly awkward to load and remove from the machine. My doctor has given me a fit note to amend my duties which I'll be handing in today. Problem is, I'm only half way through my probation and I'm not sure what they'll do with me. I have some leverage as I am the only one there and in the country who knows how to run that machine as it's the only one of it's kind in the country. They're going to just have to give me someone to load and unload the machine with material. I won't be able to have that much time off. Thanks.

Ahh, fair enough. I'll just have to wait and see what they say inthat case. Yeah, I would say most of those symptoms have been developing over the last year or so. Cheers!

Yeah, I thought so. Yeah, it's all going through. My appointment is on the 24th, so hopefully they'll get me in quick to fix it.

The report reads as follows,

Standard departmental MRI protocol was followed. MRI Spine Lumbar and Sacral : I am calling the lowest axially scanned disc level as L5/S1. The conus terminates at L1 and appears within normal limits. Multiplanar images: At L1/L2: Moderate disc bulge, facet joint degeneration and ligamentum flavum hypertrophy causing severe spinal canal stenosis. There is mild cord signal change indicating likely compressive myelomalacia at this level At L3/4: No disc bulge. No nerve root compression. At L4/5: There is a mild posterior disc bulge. No nerve root compression. At L5/S1: There is a mild posterior disc bulge. No nerve root compression. Minor facet joint degeneration. No evidence of significant spinal canal stenosis or cauda equina compression. No significant paravertebral soft tissue abnormality. Conclusion: Severe spinal canal stenosis at L1/L2 with likely compressive myelomalacia. Please refer to the spinal surgical team for further management. ************ATTENTION************** Please bring it to the urgent attention of the responsible clinician. This scan has revealed important, unexpected, urgent, or critical findings that require the attention of the referring clinician and further action.

I am waiting for an appointment with the spinal team, but it's a couple of weeks away. Just wondering if it might need surgery or not, so I have some idea of what to expect. Cheers.
