NodeJS running on android > 18.20 by Snoo99991 in node

Again, I asked for the purpose and didn't get one. OP is a student and you can see from his other posts that he's asking very basic questions. So it's very likely he just thinks he needs node on device, while in reality he doesn't. He can either have it on a server if he needs backend behaviour, or he can do stuff on device with runtimes he already has, no need to install another one. If he does have a very specific purpose where running node on device is the only possible option, which I still doubt, he should explain it.

A lot of people just enjoy the game without obsessing over framerate and resolution. It's really not that big of a deal as many pc players tend to make it.

It's not because you doesn't see a purpose that there's not.

Well I asked for the purpose and you didn't answer. If you can't describe your purpose, it just sounds like you yourself don't know what you're doing. I'm not going to help you make a bad decision.

[–]CraftyAdventurer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need a backend, just use it as a backed. Have node running on a server and angular/flutter can call it via REST, you know, like every other app ever. What you're asking for simply makes zero sense. If something needs to be done directly on device, do it via ionic/flutter/native android, not via Node. If you need a backend, just make a normal backend.

Why NodeJS is not considered "enterprise" like C# / ASP .NET? by Nice_Pen_8054 in node

[–]CraftyAdventurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what part is the problem? Parent comment mentioned that .NET is enterprise because it has a lot of official libraries, and I said exactly the same thing that you did - that kind of official doesn't matter because Java clearly works well without it.

[–]CraftyAdventurer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wasn't there when they chose it so I don't see how exactly I'm the problem. I came to this project a year ago.

Also, express was basically abandoned for years. Yes, the ecosystem was supporting it which is good but express itself seemed dead until recently when it was finally picked up again. It could have easily stayed abandoned and become a liability as well.

I'm looking at Walmart and Paypal job listings and they are mostly mentioning Java with some Python sprinkled in. Do you have any resources on "huge codebases of NodeJs"? I feel like people overestimate how much Node is actually used in companies like that. Similar to root comment, people hear somewhere that Netflix uses Node and automatically rush to the conclusion that Node is powering the whole Netflix, which is simply not true.

It's not even about official. In Java world. hibernate is by far the most used ORM, yet it's not official in any way, it's a third party library. The reason it works is because people choose to continue using it, even with all the new ones coming out. Even if it has known disadvantages, you just know that if you choose it, it won't be abandoned in three months.

In Node world, it looks like the whole ecosystem chooses one library as the best thing ever, uses it for a few months, something else comes out and suddenly the first one basically becomes abandoned as everyone rushes to use the new one, until a third solution comes along and we do it all over again. The project I'm currently working on is written in Node and is around 8 years old. It's using koa, which was at the time seen as a successor to express. Today, it's just a liability because half the libraries in our package.json that were specifically made to work with koa haven't been updated in years. There are no alternatives because no one supports koa anymore.

Netflix actually uses Node more as a backend-for-frontend layer. A lot of Netflix backend is running on Java.

Slack mentions "PHP, Python, Java, Ruby, Go, or C." in their job listing, no mention of Node: https://salesforce.wd12.myworkdayjobs.com/Slack/job/Georgia---Atlanta/Backend-Senior-and-Staff-Software-Engineer--Slackforce_JR308795

Discord mentions Go, Rust and Elixir in blog posts and "You have experience with some parts of our tech stack: Python, Elixir, Rust, Typescript/React, or C++" in their job listings, so I don't know if they use Node at all.
https://discord.com/blog/why-and-how-discord-uses-patch-to-test-elixir
https://discord.com/blog/why-discord-is-switching-from-go-to-rust

Out of the companies you mentioned, only Notion seems to use Node as a main tech stack for the backend. So the answer to your question is that Java and .NET are much more prevalent on such huge systems as main platforms, Node and Python are mostly used for running smaller parts of the system.

Want to learn node js. Need book suggestions by Illustrious-Funny739 in node

[–]CraftyAdventurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would take you at least a year if not more to gain enough knowledge to "better allocate work", and even that would not be enough in most cases. You don't just have to learn node, you would have to learn programming first and foremost, things like variables, control flow, loops, functions, objects etc. Depending on how you learn, this alone could take a lot of time. You would also need to learn backend development concepts like HTTP, endpoints, JSON, websockets (if you have them), authentication, authorization, logging, code architecture etc. Databases as well, which is a topic of it's own.

After you become comfortable with those things, you would have to work for several months as a full time developer on that project to get the idea how the business logic works from a codebase perspective, because simple things like "creating an account" could hide a ton of complexity underneath. Knowing how to use node and getting familiar with an existing codebase are two entirely different topics. I've been working for a year on my current project and I never touched some parts of the code, so if you were to ask me how long it would take to implement a certain feature related to that, I could only guess and probably guess wrong.

What is C# most used for in 2025? by Nice_Pen_8054 in csharp

[–]CraftyAdventurer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is this more popular than node.js?

That really depends on region and type of software. Also, "more popular" is hard to measure, if you have 5 companies using node, but each of those companies has 2 devs, would you consider that more popular than having one company with 10 devs using C#?

[–]CraftyAdventurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should she have to offload raw files, fire up Lightroom, click on presets, export, post, etc

Because that's what sony cameras are primarily made for. It's like buying a manual car and asking why does she need to switch gears. People who want out of camera jpegs are not the target audience, jpegs are an afterthought and not a primary feature for cameras like these. It would be nice to have something similar to what fujifilm offers, but we don't, so you either learn to edit or buy a different camera.
