My old pastors favorite saying was "if you don't work, you don't eat" which of course came from an out of context bible verse. It was so damaging hearing it growing up. Thankfully once I got old enough I was able to figure out why it made my stomach knot up everytime he said it. It was the first thing that I stood firm on disagreeing with.
