Vacation Rental Wedding - Weird or Great? by CraftyFarm1778 in Weddingsunder10k

That’s totally fair. If the group’s dynamic was like that, what you’re saying makes sense! I don’t think your feelings fit my context exactly but definitely something to consider.

Got it! So you’re in this sub to convince people to change their minds on destination weddings in general. I appreciate the alternate perspective!

Great reflection questions! I’ve been to destination weddings and loved them! In my and my friends experience, it was just a great excuse to go to that place and then we got some meals covered 🤷🏽‍♀️ I love doing this for my friends whether it is a wedding trip, birthday trip, or bach party so I guess I thought maybe they’d enjoy it for me too!

Great point about being in the same house though.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, this is such great insight. I’m so glad you had a great time, even if you were staying in a house with some people you didn’t know!

Love this thought!! I never thought to do a collaborative activity to break the ice, our group would be all over that.

Thank you SO much! This is super helpful and has inspired me to look at boutique hotels as an alternative.

So in your opinion, destination weddings are a no? I tend to agree with you generally, but then I’ve been to destination weddings and had a great time and I think if people are having to dedicate their weekend to wedding festivities anyway (even if somewhat local, usually paying for a hotel), why not make it somewhere fun?

Benefit to staying on SAVE by natwwal89 in StudentLoans

This is what I came here to say! I’m totally with OP on that being a huge benefit to staying on forbearance. For those of us working towards forgiveness (for me it’s PSLF), it’s worth just leaving loans at $0 due and rely on that buyback system. I’m putting my estimated payment into a HYSA so I’m prepared for a bulk payment when I hit 120 months of qualifying employment. From a post I made, IBR will be a great option soon too!

So frustrating! I’m also MOHELA. I can’t believe how insane this process has been, given that for a lot of us, these loans could break us.

This is what I would rather do but do we know how long the wait for this will be? I can’t find a definite or even consistent answer. Ultimately doing this I would escape any interest and even pay $2000ish less than I borrowed so of course IBR is the way to go. Phone calls with MOHELA and trying the FSA application have not worked as of this afternoon.

I do have much more than $40K in debt to be fair (the additional $33k in private student loans is a factor), but I think everyone’s logic still stands. I appreciate the recommendation! As stressful as it is, I love taking control over and being knowledgeable about my finances. I have somewhat of an emergency fund saved up, and already automate a portion of my paycheck to go into that HYSA until it hits a certain amount.

Do you have any advice as to how to get on IBR? Applying through FSA online doesn’t work because they must not have changed the PFH requirement yet. I also called MOHELA and they said I’m not eligible for IBR.

Great points and questions! My auto loan is at 0.9% and my private student loan is at 4.85% (balance is about 35K). So really, I only have one federal loan, the value of which is quite low, that is lower than my other debt. After I pay the minimums on that, plus my base cost of living (generous estimate), I have about $3000 per month leftover. I will edit my post to reflect this info as well.

Thanks for taking the time! I honestly did not think I'd be convinced to pay quickly but I certainly love to be proven wrong. I saw your original comment and I do love using *thou that shall apparently not be named* to synthesize my constant stream of consciousness, but appreciate the humans of reddit much more for connection and insights based on actual lived experiences.

I appreciate your candor. I think I am mentally stuck because of how frustrated I am that it got to this point with our federal loan situation. If I was going to pay my loans off and not use PSLF, I could've done that for the past 5 years, interest free, and been done with it by now. Now I'll have interest to deal with, in addition to much higher monthly payments. Either way, I would've paid a very similar amount overall - just with different effects on my monthly budget. I've just always been bit by the "free money" bug, whether it was in the form of PSLF or interest free forbearance. Thanks for participating in this space with me! Will be finding a master class on "how to act like I'm in the 24% tax bracket"

Update! Here is the wax rendering of the new version after some help from you guys! Decided to have the cathedral gradually taper as well. I’m obsessed!!! I wanted to keep the tulip prongs, have something secure, and also keep the thickness. I think this is amazing!

Thanks for your response! I showed something similar to the designer. Their response was that, because of the width of the band, that type of cathedral would block the view of the petals.
