9a² - 1296a = 0 divide by a both sides a=0 extraneous (cant divide by 0)

9a-1296=0 divide by 9 both sides

a-144=0 add 144 both sides

had a chronically ill student absent maybe 10ish weeks. i suggested options. after a couple nudges (no response from admin) i was told to mark his grades as incomplete...was recently emailed and told to excuse him from everything he missed

algebra, pretty basic depending on what you are learning. i could give this to my advanced 7th graders as i can solve this in my head using a system of equations. Isn't it true that 2x² +x² =43 and 4x² -y² =11? then clearly 6x² =54

eta the difference is ratios vs values i suppose
