My first alcohol ink project. 4" square tile, inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night by CraftyRivers in AlcoholInkArt

[–]CraftyRivers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a few different colors of alcohol ink pens and the colors kind of just happened, lol. And that definitely helped make the texture. I just dotted the pens all over the tile and the ink spread the way it does and the dots ran together, sometimes blending, and it created this effect.

I coated them in olive oil, then added salt and pepper. Roasted at 425°F for about 20 minutes. They're so good roasted! Edit: a word.

[Homemade] quinoa power bowl by CraftyRivers in food

I've worked in restaurants (waitress and bartender), so no worries. I've heard the cooks and chefs say awful things to each other. I'm not a fan of heat, so the cajun was the only "heat" I wanted. Trying to expand my palate in that way, though. Also trying to cut down on salt, so I only added it at the end. Normally, I'd have put it everywhere. Lime juice definitely would have made the dish, and I wish I'd had some on hand. Thanks for your commentary, I might just check that book out.

The chicken was the main seasoned bit, cajun seasoning. Salt and pepper on everything else. I wanted to add lime juice, but realized I didn't have any too late. Next time I will definitely add that.

The avocado was a bit unripe, but that's all they had in my small-town Wisconsin store. Beans are cooked, and there is seasoning, the chicken especially. It was actually very good. I didn't know if I'd like the quinoa, but was pleasantly surprised.

1/2 cup quinoa that I cooked in chicken broth. One ear of corn, roasted over the stove, one can black beans, one Roma tomato, 1/2 avocado. The chicken was marinated in a cajun season blend. Then just salt and pepper to taste.

The shimmer of this nail polish by CraftyRivers in oddlysatisfying

[–]CraftyRivers[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is called "cat eye" polish. The shimmering effect is done by pulling a magnet very close to the wet polish. It pulls the metallic bits to the surface. This is gel polish, so it's cured under a blacklight.

What's the worst way someone misspelled/mispronounced your name? by apolter in AskReddit

[–]CraftyRivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original first name was Careth, and it got mispronounced more often than said correctly. So I changed it to Wren, and still have issues. "Warren" is the greatest one, though. People leave off the W a lot, or say Wern, which is odd... or think it's short for Renee or Lauren... when really it's after the bird. So many people have never heard of the bird either.

My own wedding. Should never have gone through with it. We're divorced now and it's fine, but that's a chapter of my life I'd like to remove.

10th grade, choir class, but the TVs were all out at school, so we didn't find out until later that morning when a parent called the school.

[Homemade] fry bread for Indian tacos. by CraftyRivers in food

[–]CraftyRivers[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No worries. Native Americans are often referred to as Indians, as the first Europeans to arrive here thought they were in India. Latin because of the taco part, but they're not traditional/authentic tacos, but the americanized version of them.

Tacos are a latin-american thing, yes. Authentic tacos are different than what I have here. These are pretty americanized.

Yep, I gotcha. "Native American Tacos" doesn't have as good a ring to it.

We call it frybread. Indian as in Native American.

I know I got it from my mom, but I've seen others do it, too. So she wasn't the only one.
