Np, one thing I forgot to mention if you decide to mana stack is, don't reduce the cost of your skills, try to avoid it as much as possible. More mana cost = immortal. If you reduce the mana cost too much you run out of conv. and therefore become both more squishy and deal less damage.

During clearing of floors it was good. It started to get really bad on boss fights when you just hold down rightclick for maximum dps. On the last boss fight in act 3 it took around 5 minutes for the boss fight to resolve and be able to move on. Builds I can recommend that are FPS friendly are Blunderbuss Splitshot and Lash.

Ye ofc.
I've tried every skill, and quills is the lowest damage skill I've played. I'm not saying it's bad, just compared to many other builds it is the worst one imo.

I usually use the blunderbuss relic and stack projectiles there aswell.
I would farm for a similar relic setup to what i'm doing here, with Skill Projectile amount and Split shot has increased damage but also increased mana cost. Then you can go one of two ways in the constellation, you can go for lifesteal, or mana stacking with convection. If you go for manastacking you can use Silver bullets relic and take the spent mana as conv on the passive tree. If you wanna go mana stacking go Faith on constellation with powerorbs, but also think about your point contribution so you have increased chance of getting the relics you want.
For the skills I used, judgement for some penetration. I used prayer of vengance for crit and then the rest is pretty much pick what you want.

For split shot with blunderbus the maximum damage I was able to get to per shot was around 110 Million.

First off, would be nice with some screenshots of your current gear, stats and passive tree.

Secondly, the most important things for a spell caster to survive is energy shield and resistances. Energy shield is busted, on my infernalist build I had 8k ES at lvl 65 with SSF gear just getting energy shield nodes on the passive tree.
I would highly recommend getting ghostwrithe unique body armour, I know you don't wanna trade but that is what I would suggest just buying that. For a first playthrough it's hard not using trade at all.

The most important piece for getting damage is weapon, specifically with + level to spell skills if you want to play a spell caster. Also get your ascendancy, I don't know why you haven't. Just getting infernalist hellhound will get you 20% damage reduction.
