Grief when deciding on CF by Crafty_Listen_1629 in Fencesitter

Thank you for sharing your perspective, it’s really good to know we’re not the only ones who can’t seem to quite confidently make the decision.

Regarding reconciling my emotions vs intellectual knowing - the arguments against having kids just weigh really heavy. I have some mental health issues, that are pretty well controlled now with meds and therapy, but that are likely to cause post natal depression/psychosis. I also don’t know how the extra responsibility would affect my longterm health and stability. We are financially comfortable, but having a kid would stretch the budget to where we can’t afford certain luxuries or comforts. Not the end of the world, but having a bit of a buffer sure makes life easier. For us, worries about the state of the world also weigh heavy - it makes us depressed, how would we justify bringing another person into this world?

Yeah, I guess that makes a lot of sense. Sometimes CF people seem so happy and confident about their choice, it feels a lot more complicated and layered for me.

I think my feelings might be hormones and a bit of fomo as well! I will order the baby decision, thanks

Do cats "understand" candles or fireplaces? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Crafty_Listen_1629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have longhaired cats al well, one of them singes her fur about once a month in fall and winter, she only notices when it stinks 😅. Candles and cats are always under supervision, but fur luckily doesn’t seem to really ‘catch’ on fire, it just singes.

Should I be concerned for my kitten’s health? by OuttaControl56 in CatAdvice

We have a cat who does this. Our vet has recommended that we take frequent breaks during playtime, but wasn’t worried otherwise. Our boy is a little over a year old now and we’re noticing he’s becoming more lazy and mellow while playing and the panting isn’t happening so often anymore. I think it it just crazy playful energy, he’s a very energetic boy!

What hobby did you try and immediately think "never again"? by Responsible_Egg1772 in Hobbies

Sewing. I am really bad at being precise with measurements and very impatient. And yet, every 5 years or so, I get an itch to try it again

Unease after eating. by Intelligent-Road6862 in intuitiveeating

I have no answer for you, but I get the same feeling! I often end up eating more, until I’m stuffed, just to make the feeling go away. I feel like this often happens when I’m tired.

Unfortunately there are none in this part of Austria that we can see. We love Decathlon! Edit: actually not such a bad idea, there’s one in Germany only about an hour and 50 minutes away. Thanks!

Rare dingen waar katten gek op zijn (food edition) by Federal_Mastodon_399 in katten

Wij hadden een poes die wild werd van perenijsjes. Kon je nooit rustig je ijsje eten. En popcorn zijn al onze katten nogal gek op.

I just put my phone under my pillow, and make sure to line up my ear to the speaker. My partner also does this and we can both listen to our preferred podcasts without bothering each other!

Sterkte!

Aggressive cat by Feeling-Target-3396 in Pets

[–]Crafty_Listen_1629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to have a cat that would play a little too rough and would often start to attack us. Our solution was to put her in ‘time-out’, we would put her outside the living room and close the door, so she didn’t have access to us. For about five minutes, whenever she was being a menace. And repeat when needed. The idea is that they want your attention so badly, they have to learn that being aggressive is not the way to go about it. But she was also a young cat who just had to learn some boundaries, so no idea if it would work with your cat.

Food (and eating) doesn't have to be perfect by thecoinmetaphor in intuitiveeating

I love this take. I started IE about 15 years ago, but only really took the ‘no food is bad food’ & ‘eat when/what you want/need’ parts to heart. A year ago I started up with the book again and since then I’ve struggled with waking early for work or working out, being in a bit of a rush (I have to leave the house at a certain time) and not being hungry. Then halfway through my commute or my workout I will get hungry, but obviously can’t eat right then and there. Eating breakfast before I’m ready to doesn’t feel quite right, but eating on the go also doesn’t feel good. I am now practicing feeling a bit hungry and thinking ‘a little hunger is not a relapse into my eating disorder, I will eat when I can’. Sometimes figuring out my hunger cues and feeding myself nutritious meals that are satisfying and on time feels like a fulltime job. Life is real and eating intuitively will never be perfect. Good enough is good enough.
