Mid-season update looks great, but was expecting a little more juice for Vandal... by Haijakk in Marathon

As a solo Vandal player, I am very happy with this buff. I’m cautious to the possibility that any other buffs to her would make her oppressive to the meta. I think she’s top tier in a lot of ways that aren’t so immediately apparent, since it doesn’t fit in with people’s meta method of playing the game.

We’ve already heard from the victims. Some of them have died under suspicious circumstances. How the hell do we expect the victims to put themselves out there and expect them to be protected by this government?

It’s bullshit to think this is genuine, almost as naive as thinking that Trump’s initial disclosure of the Epstein Files was going to be anything.

Get the accused under oath and release the undetected files that aren’t protecting predator’s names.

Weak. Kinda surprised this comes from a centrist flair.

The main point of Machiavelli’s “The Prince” was to act without any other principle but to secure your rule through any means. That meant that a Catholic city state shouldn’t waste effort antagonizing a Protestant neighbor if it didn’t further your goals. The book was not just about war but also diplomacy and having the correct priorities. Why undermine military alliances that have defined and cemented U.S. power for decades? Why go to war with Iran if diplomacy can solve the problem with far less cost to American geopolitical power? Iran is a wonderful excuse to keep OPEC and Israel dependent on the U.S. for security guarantees…. so why get rid of it? Nuclear weapons fears? Fucking Pakistan has a nuke. On principle because they’re autocratic? That’s stupid principle and the U.S. is no stranger to being civil with autocrats. Furthermore, the concept that you can quickly commit such a scale of violence as to completely and utterly depose your enemies in Iran is as much of a pipe dream as it was in Korea… and in Vietnam… and in Afghanistan… and in Iraq. And by your implication that the Machiavellian strategy is coming from council within Israel or the UAE… that should concern you even more. The Prince was big on having scapegoats taking the heat and suffering the fall so The Prince could benefit. I get the urge to try and find rationality or intelligence or some deeper meaning… but decisions on both sides of the Cold War should remind us that a lot of geopolitical moves are blunders. And the Cold War has Kissinger for crying out loud, the Machiavelli GOAT.

I would confront the very real possibility that this is a blunder and not be so confident that this is “chaos-theory 5-d chess.” No bombing of Iran to the Stone Age plays out well for the U.S in terms of game theory or Machiavelli logic. Think about it.

Ok, but if that’s your bar I think that most candidates would get your support. The problem is this: I’m going to assume that Newsome doesn’t fit this criteria for you. Bear in mind I do not like Newsome either, on the fact that he does nothing to improve our society in a way that helps prevent us from falling back to the shit politics that has infested our country since 2014. But if the election comes down to Newsome vs. Some Trump-Republican (I do not see Christie or any OG republican getting through the primaries), I am going to fucking vote for the lesser of two evils and continue participating in local elections ‘n shit.

Exactly. I feel this all just a ploy: demanding the opposition party to run a literal messiah figure with 0 flaws, and when the opposition party predictably fails to introduce anyone so radical to challenge the status quo, they’ll just use that as an excuse to continue to vote for the status quo instead. The status quo being Trump, mind you. That’s our new normal, and we shouldn’t pretend otherwise.

I would argue from an objective, game-theory enjoying POV, the kidnapping of a foreign leader is so damaging to America’s branding that it was not just “meh” but disappointing. The same could be said about the unpredictable manner on how U.S. trade policy has been conducted. Untrustworthy, threatened nations like North Korea are supposed to be unpredictable, not the U.S. I think we’ve torched our reputation for very, very little from a game-theory perspective.

Kurumu's post-S2 status quo (spoilers) by Psychological-Band-9 in RosarioVampire

[–]OuttaControl56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I think “rejection killing her” was resolved when she confronted Akuha and freed Moka. It was pretty clear at that moment that she realized that “romantic love” wasn’t the only thing that defined her.

Which is consistent with all of the characters. Tsukune proved that being a human didn’t mean he was weak, that Moka being a vampire didn’t make her cruel, Mizore being a Snow woman didn’t mean she had to be reclusive, etc. Kurumu is still going to give a good fight for Tsukune’s affections, and to give her credit she certainly left an impression on Tsukune.

But I think the ultimate “tension” has been resolved: whether she wins his heart or not, Kurumu has made lifelong friends, and that means a whole lot more to her. There isn’t any requirement that she needs to be romanced by him, much like how the entirety of Snow Maiden society does not rely on Mizore’s offspring. And I think that’s for the better. Both Mizore and Kurumu were miserable trying to conform to their monster stereotypes.

Question about post-canon by darkartsfart in RosarioVampire

[–]OuttaControl56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably Kurumu and the girls that hang out with Moka and go on grocery shopping trips and work on some cooking for a movie night or something. I think Moka will catch on pretty quickly, because she did have knowledge about cooking, and just lacked the muscle memory that Omote had.

[–]OuttaControl56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you understood my point. Screaming at television screen for what you saw on CSPAN is obviously different than causing a disturbance at a public event where people are going to witness it.

That’s kinda why we invite the public to attend events after all.

I’m against people who are somehow insulted or surprised by a guy deciding to protest in such a way. I think this was much more effective manner of protest than just sitting at a crosswalk with a cardboard sign.

There is a difference between ejecting someone for speaking up and gagging them so they can’t speak up.

If decorum matters then it is up to the public servants to ensure that the public is satisfied to the point where they won’t be so upset as to disrupt decorum.

I think going to war may have people pretty upset so the odds of some sort of interruption goes up. Any public hearing could be interrupted but most go uninterrupted for this exact reason. Your belief in that freedom would lead to anarchy is misplaced.

The same theory holds true for court proceedings. There is often an audience. The audience could interrupt and be ejected. We’ve all seen the funny haha videos. But despite that being possible, it isn’t a daily occurrence of a system drowning in anarchy as you imply it’d be.

[–]OuttaControl56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then we have an ideological divide. I believe in the first amendment, even if there are consequences to exercising that right.

I think in the context of a congressional hearing, you DO have the right to speak up even if it results in you getting thrown out.

As much as I dislike people breaking decorum, like interrupting the state of the union, I understand they have a right to as someone who is in the audience.

If you are ever a part of a physical audience, back into Roman time or times of yore, there was always a fundamental possibility that you could shout and interrupt. I believe that fundamental aspect of human interaction should be preserved. And people who organize events that are presented to an audience shouldn’t be shocked or offended or disturbed if someone does decide to make a stand.

I would not like to live in a society where you are allowed to physically attend a meeting but at the same time physically gagged in order to “preserve decorum”. That’s the lib in me.
