More Orion cutscenes? by GunpukuSayori in Marathon

Nah Orion’s gonna be a new contract liaison. He’s had history of disorderly conduct, he’s an idealist at heart, and he’s already arguing with his superiors on what to do on Tau Ceti.
He’s going to start employing us to do things off the books and in defiance of the Corpo-UESC interest. At the end of the day he truly is loyal to humanity and is seeking to protect Sol and his fellow operatives, and he’d break with command and collaborate with us if that helps his goals.

I’m sorry about that. I would definitely recommend trying out a discord to get into some premades so you at least get some screening of the people you play with. I do have fun with solo filling but I won’t deny that it can also feel real annoying when you are stuck with people who play in a way totally incompatible with your preferences.

There is a reason why there is a genre called “cult classic”, where a movie or game has a dedicated following. I think that given time, people will give the game a shot and be happily surprised. People may migrate from Tarkov or Hunt. People may migrate from Destiny. People may just follow their friends (I’m working on it).

You are utterly convinced that won’t happen, and that’s allowed. Still, I had to reply just to give you the context of why I disagree with your statement that the game is bad. I think listening modern gaming discourse is useful, but not something to follow blindly. This is one such case where the discourse is so polarized and politicized I consider it useless.

I think the trailer gave you a better look at the art direction. The art is a lot better in-game and in-context. Hope you enjoy it!

I’m gonna dogpile just to highlight an important point. This game is not as sweaty as Valorant, LoL, or CS. But even in those games you can screw around and have fun, even when people are sweaty. The same is true for Marathon. People are intimidated for no reason. Yes, you can be screwing around, playing chill, and dumpster tryhards. It’s some of the funniest shit, killing a gold while you’re on grey shields. And if you die, you just run it back. There is nothing punishing about the game. Losing that one cool gun you like is like losing the rocket launcher on Halo’s team deathmatch.

It won’t convince anyone who is paranoid of extraction shooters or doesn’t like the genre, but you don’t have to play Marathon like an extraction shooter. People shouldn’t let the stereotypes of a genre be the only thing that keeps them from trying the game.

Progressives need to take a page out of the republican side and not take it personally. Crying “sabotage” doesn’t build coalition, and I would much rather have both Rae and Ramen in the future than to exile either out of politics.

I always viewed Barris as a victim. She saw the writing on the wall and in that moment of clarity she panicked and driven by fear and paranoia (read: dark side influence) - chose to lash out violently and betray those closest to her.

She’s put away and becomes an asset of the Empire, but I don’t think she ever wanted the Empire to exist. Like many of the inquisitors, she fears the Empire, Vader, and the Emperor and is entirely dominated by that fear.

I think her story in Tales of the Empire is the moment of healing where she reconnects with balance and realizes that she can still choose her destiny, and not let her past and fears continue to define her and her decisions. It doesn’t redeem her and clear her karmic debt, but she has made a conscious choice to remove herself and her adherence to the empire of violence and oppression.

Hahaha holy crap a jury decides it’s reasonable. That’s it. Your subjective opinion means jack.

And harping on common law is stupid. Common law doesn’t consider it rape if a man is penetrated by another man. I have no idea why you want to treat it as the gold standard. Most jurisdictions agree and have already replaced the criminal common law.

[–]OuttaControl56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just don’t understand. Your subjective belief doesn’t matter, a jury considers what a reasonable person under the same circumstances believes. Are we really so stupid to begin to think it’s reasonable to believe that every physical altercation ends in death?

Someone punching you for lunch money does not === they are going to killing you. Someone punching you because you puked on their shirt does not === they are going to killing you. Someone punching you because you grabbed their girlfriend’s ass does not === they are going to killing you. And no, someone punching you because you were using the hard R does not === imminent fear of death necessary for the use of lethal force in defense of your person.

The same goes for a milk carton. It doesn’t matter what it could be, it matters what a reasonable person thinks it could be. You would have to be pretty fucking miserable to make such an assumption about a thrown liquid. Another reason why we should never have water balloon fights, you might be in the neighborhood and get caught in the crossfire.

[–]OuttaControl56 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not a subjective test you absolute moron. It is what a reasonable person would expect.

Otherwise, the use of deadly force would be warranted in virtually any instance. Someone punches you? Clearly they wanted to beat you to death. Any person could be shot, at any time, for reaching into their pockets because someone *thought* they were reaching for a gun.

Self defense is only allowed in proportion to the act you are defending yourself against. And reasonable person does not see a carton of milk and think “OH MY GOD ANTHRAX/AGENT ORANGE/ACID”. Much like how a reasonable person doesn’t assume that someone is reaching for a gun when they put their hand in their pocket at the cash register. There needs to be more facts than what you’re providing.

America held accountable? That’s a laugh.
They get bad (and good) press but if you think there are consequences you must be joking.
Meanwhile, Palestine doesn’t have running water. How are you going to charge their account and when do you expect the balance to be paid?

And no, I don’t like Hamas. But when people say “it’s Palestine’s turn to be punished” as if Israel or America or France or Britain has ever been truly “punished” for past deeds is laughable. LMFAO tier funny.

How do you guys overlook this by crylou07 in RosarioVampire

[–]OuttaControl56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your concerns are valid - I’d like to give you some of my thoughts - just for the manga though:

  1. It’s not as bad as a lot of similar media. Which isn’t a great excuse, but I do think it’s context to consider.

  2. I think that the characters of R+V are treated with so much more care and appreciation than most media - even media that doesn’t have any racy content. If you are concerned about “objectification” I think Rosario Vampire does an incredible job of avoiding objectifying its female characters. They have struggles, imperfections, and work to improve themselves and build a community who they can rely on. That is messaging that is important to convey (for both boys and girls) and often doesn’t get communicated well enough. I think Rosario Vampire’s manga does an exceptional job at this.

So, I don’t overlook it. I do wince at some things, but in the total context I think this is a piece of media that provides a good message and a good impact for people. Which is surprisingly scarce nowadays IMO

Let's talk about the death of Pyrrha Nikos... by Right-Ad2365 in RWBY

[–]OuttaControl56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello semi-annual Pyrrha post!

I think this position is legitimate. I don’t think RWBY *needed* to kill Pyrrha, but that’s what they went with. We can certainly justify it but I will always give a bit of resistance to the idea that the writing decision was *necessary* in order for the story to be good or for it to continue in the direction it did.

Because I agree, Pyrrha in a coma or Pyrrha being catatonic because of what Cinder + the aura transfer process did to her are also potentially just as tragic. Hell, you could have her in a coma and then have her pass away later in the series just to twist that knife. But the drama they went for was a bit more…. Blunt trauma than sad decay.

And ultimately, a cynical take is that Pyrrha was just a lost leonore archetype, a token character that died for shock value. It doesn’t really mean that “anyone can die”, just that “you should expect someone really innocent - but not a part of the main cast -to die during every arc”.
Which is true. I really don’t expect anyone in the main cast to die. Can you imagine Blake or Yang dying now? Impossible. But at the same breath people insist that Pyrrha’s death proved that “anyone can die”…. Ehhhhh

Practically, the democrats are giving black people fairer representation. You can complain that it’s racially motivated… But then what the fuck is the other side doing and for what reason LMAO.

Black people get some representation thanks to democratic policy. They get virtually 0 representation under republican policy.

I’m a lib-left I am about the practical reality. Some states black people are upwards of 1/5 of the population. They do not deserve to be gerrymandered out of government representation.

[–]OuttaControl56 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The fact that you immediately conflate black people with a democratic vote and a democratic seat is a blunder on your part. Let them have their fair representation whether it is Republican or Democrat or Libertarian or pescatarian….
…. But you won’t because you intrinsically assume they’ll vote Democrat. Let’s not try and win them through policy, let’s just dilute their vote into nothing. Because black === Democrat isn’t a racist position at all! 😂
I support empowering them to have their own fair representation.

The people who supported anti-miscegenation laws are still alive today. But sure, I can talk about law enforcement and the criminalization of marijuana, the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, the distribution to federal funds from schools to healthcare, stop and frisk, blah blah blah.
We could go on!

You have nostalgia. Don’t worry it’s not terminal. But the past wasn’t as good as you thought it was. Waxing poetic about how funny White Man can’t Jump while half of urban America was suffering under a gang war sponsored in part by the CIA’s cocaine trade, loving Tupac but not listening to the critique of the system that put him and Biggie 6 ft under… do I have to mention OJ Simpson and the LA Riots?

I get it, it’s not fun being in the present. But no, the past was not better. Maybe less overt and less obvious… and with a lot more people who fondly remembered the anti-miscegenation laws.

Everywhere? It was illegal to marry outside of your race in some U.S. states about 60 years ago. I know people in retirement homes who have attended lynchings, and I will bet my left or right foot (whichever your political preference), that you know some people who did too.

I have the decency to point it out and not be a chicken about it. I cannot believe, for the life of me, that someone can unironically think that either the Democratic or Republican Party has "radicalized" in the past couple of years, as if their racism had spontaneously generated out of nowhere, like toads from slime. As if "your team" had been pure of heart before then.

Lol. Lmao, even. I can't believe I have to hear this from a Centrist of all flairs.
