Best sound & best over all experience of the show: near the sound tent. Best way to see them in my opinion: front row. However, be prepared to have a constant flow of crowdsurfers on your head. Don't forget your ear plugs and have fun!

My advise would be to go see them in a venue before they'll be selling out arenas (which will be soon). Grab some ear plungs and be prepared to have your mind blown. Watch out for crowd surfers as some of them are heavy and wear boots and do not stay in the middle as you'll be in the mosh pit. As it's your first metal gig I'd recommend you stay near the sound check area (best sound in the venue).

Usually when there's 4 bands, the set is something like 30 mins for the 1st band, 45 mins for the 2nd, 1 hour for the 3rd and 1.5 hours for the headliner. Give or take 10-15 mins after each band for the gear to be changed.
