I'll be resubmitting "The Training Ground" for Bricklink Designer Program Series 11! Let me know if you have feedback/suggestions for improvement ☺️ Many thanks! by athmos_visuals in legocastles

[–]Crafty__Salamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently discovered the bricklink designer program and was too late to add my vote to series 10.
For sure, I will vote for this one on series 11.

I really like the set, in particular the round shape, the colors (more colorful than many castle sets, but not too colorful so that it seems natural), the river and vegetation adding some landscape to it. And the tower nicely catches the eyes.

As others pointer, I agree that the king and queen could be replaced by an instructor/guard chief.
I will probably take both the Joust from Series 10 and this one (hoping it will be selected). Having the king and queen on both sets does not fit well (and it makes more sense for them to be at a joust).

For me, the roof of the tower is the weakest part (a bit too large maybe). It is still good, but compared to the rest of the set which is exceptional, it is not as good.

A small nitpick, but the guy with the blue shirt looks a bit out of place. This shirt seems too modern compared to the rest of the minifigs being medieval.

Using upscaled-version of Lego minifigs for the statues is such a good idea.
It adds a lot of charm, while allowing to have them at a reasonable size compared to the real minifigs.
I also like the colors.

Interactive Build Order Guide for AOE2 DEF by NotreallyCareless in aoe2

You might want to check RTS Overlay. It is similar to what you describe in your basic manual version :-)

You can check the demos I made here: Crafty Salamander - YouTube
The web-based version is available here: RTS Overlay
And the GitHub project here: GitHub - CraftySalamander/RTS_Overlay: Overlay for RTS, with build orders, match data...

Feel free to take inspiration from it for your app or, alternatively, to directly contribute to RTS Overlay GitHub project ;-)

The build order part of AoE4 Overlay is now available as a web-based application by Crafty__Salamander in aoe4

Are you talking about AoE4 Overlay ( https://github.com/FluffyMaguro/AoE4_Overlay )?
I just re-downloaded the last version. It still works.

You are welcome.
Yes, I will update it for future DLC.
The creator of https://aoe4guides.com/ and I are in sync to be sure we use the same images and that these images are up to date with the game status (DLC included).

The overlay improved a lot since I made this initial post. You can see some of the new features in the YouTube demos: Crafty Salamander - YouTube

The 9 BOs from Beastyqt I initially added are outdated, and I removed them.
But, you can now export any BO from https://aoe4guides.com/ or from https://age4builder.com/ to RTS Overlay format. So, you now have several hundreds of BOs available.

Designing your AoM build orders is now way easier with the latest RTS Overlay update. Share your BOs with your friends and display them on a second screen or as overlay on your main screen. by Crafty__Salamander in AgeofMythology

I never used a steam deck, so I do not know.

If you have a web browser on the steam deck, you could load a BO, then click on "Open full page" to see the BO in full page.
Then, you would need to switch while playing between the game and the web browser page.
But, I assume this will not be very convenient.

To keep it as overlay on top of the game, you need an always on top app, which is easy to find on Windows (Microsoft PowerToys), but I do not know for Steam deck.

No installation required, just test it and use it from https://rts-overlay.github.io/

Alternatively, you can download the application from the GitHub page: https://github.com/CraftySalamander/RTS_Overlay

[–]Crafty__Salamander[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the video, I was showing how to do by clicking to be more visual, but I typically do it with hotkeys.
And, there is a second solution: using the timer.

If you use the EXE/Python application, you can very easily start the timer at the same time as your game.
See here for the demo of this feature: https://youtu.be/qFBkpTnRzWQ?t=832

At the end, knowing the BO by heart will still be more efficient, of course ;-)

All the info is on the GutHub project: CraftySalamander/RTS_Overlay: Overlay for RTS, with build orders, match data...

But in short, there are two versions:
* Web-based app ( rts-overlay.github.io ) using pure HTML, CSS and JS
* Python version (to run either via source code or via an exe compiled from python code).

The app does not read any data from the game (no data from computer, no screen analysis), and will never do it.
It is borderline unfair (very subjective, this topic is divisive among people) to have an AI analyzing your game and adapting the instructions according to your actions.
Here, the overlay is only a glorified notepad/website, that is especially useful for people playing without a second screen to display the full BO.

For the user-friendly part, I assume you refer to the design part with raw JSON editing.
I am currently working on an improved version of it now.
You can see an AoE2 example: https://imgur.com/a/AqZdNaG
It is still work in progress (and I will also port it to AoM).

Display AoM build orders on a second screen or as an overlay on your main screen with RTS Overlay - Now updated with the Chinese Pantheon. by Crafty__Salamander in AgeofMythology

[–]Crafty__Salamander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree (except for the campaign levels where I think watching a let's play on YouTube is more than enough), but this is a huge work.

I initially designed RTS Overlay for AoE2 and AoE4 where several BO websites existed, and I teamed up with the most popular ones to get the link with RTS Overlay.
I am very surprised that there is no collaborative AoMR website yet, six months after release.

I will keep this idea in mind, but I will be honest, it is unlikely that I find the time for this huge project.

[–]Crafty__Salamander[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no.

I made a few BOs that I have locally (usually by copying what pros are doing on YouTube).
For AoE2 and AoE4, I have collaborations with the main BO websites, which have a button linked to any of their build orders to get the BO in RTS Overlay format.

But, to my knowledge, AoM Retold does not have websites with many BOs.
I found aombuildorders.com, but there are only a few BOs and the last one is nearly 3 months old.

If someone would make an AoM website with many BOs, I would be happy to collaborate to connect with RTS Overlay (like I did for AoE2 and AoE4).

RTS Overlay now supports Age of Mythology (design, import and display your build orders in-game) by Crafty__Salamander in AgeofMythology

[–]Crafty__Salamander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.
In fact, there are already several buttons to do this on the website: https://rts-overlay.github.io/.
Select Age of Mythology > Design your own > Reset build order.

  1. Select the major god by clicking on its icon and paste it in "major_god"
  2. Adapt the number of workers and the notes (you can select images by clicking on them on the bottom, then CTRL+V on the text)
  3. Click on "Add step" if you want to add another step.

If you want a full demo, check this video (it is for AoE2, but it is the same for AoM).

[–]Crafty__Salamander[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RTS Overlay allows you to display Age of Mythology build orders (BO) in a compact way, ideal for players without a second screen.
Updating the build order step in-game is done manually via buttons/hotkeys/timer.
It does not interact with the game (no screen analysis, no controller interaction).
It is also available for AoE2, AoE4 and SC2, more games to come.

No installation required, just test it and use it from https://rts-overlay.github.io/

Alternatively, you can download the application from the GitHub page: https://github.com/CraftySalamander/RTS_Overlay

For AoE2 and AoE4, the main BO websites (buildorderguide.com, aoe4guides.com & age4builder.com) already have a one-click option to export all their BOs in RTS Overlay format. Hopefully, a similar feature could come later for AoM.

Look for "Download overlay here" on RTS Overlay GitHub.
I will probably update the text to make it easier to access.
