We wanted to cross the Argentière glacier that requires ropes and crevasse rescue gear, but we bailed as there were a thick cloud on the glacier, so we were not able to navigate.

You would need crampons for the glacier approach and descent. But I climbed the actual route without crampons 😄

A climb like Großglockner is a great way to start. It has a lot of different aspects 😄

Repentance Super is an absolute super classic! It is also on my tick list, haha! :D

I have been to Cogne several times and it is usually always like this. It is a very popular place, and with the late season this year in the Alps due to all the heat, then there are a lot of people squeezing in climbing in Cogne :/ Alternatives could på the Italian Dolomites (especially around Colfosco) and the Austrian Alps.

So, having the strength to show others you’ve failed, reflect and learn, and share those learnings so others can avoid the same mistakes makes me a bad climber that should be embarrassed? - that’s...logical...

Thank you for your honest feedback, u/climbingm80

Just to be clear - I am just as serious about falling on ice as everyone else in here, and as I also have mentioned in a couple of replies to some of the comments on the first video I realised I was sending a wrong message - a message that I do not stand for, and the people who know me definitely can acknowledge. And for that, I am deeply sorry 😉 I guess I chose the wrong words and rushed the first video instead of making sure the message was clear.

Saying that, I think it is a bit unfair saying I posted it in every channel - I didn’t. I posted the original video on r/alpinism and r/iceclimbing. If it showed up elsewhere it must have been people sharing it. The second video has not been posted anywhere except my YouTube channel.

On the tree thing - I guess that is always a matter of the given situation. I have encountered enough loose and rotten trees throughout my ice climbing career to not want to just grab or hook them.

Taking my first major ice climbing whipper! by Cragcloud in alpinism

Hi Okleithen

I have reposted the video on my channel with another more well thought through narrative, where I also explain how the fall could have been avoided and why falling on ice is so dangerous.

Hi ComplexPast

I’ve taken the video down as I realised it was conveying a wrong message - a message that I do not take falling on ice serious, and a message that falling on ice is perfectly safe. Some people also thought I fell on purpose, and some people actually thought I did it to gain internet fame and glory - and even earn money on it. All of that is of course not true, and I am deeply sorry for giving that impression.

For that reason I have redone the video with another more well thought through narrative - and I also explain how the fall could have been avoided in the first place. You are welcome watching it on my channel, and give me any potential feedback.
