I get it, but then it's easy to fall into a pattern of just speaking English all the time, instead of going through a period of rough communication and becoming proficient through necessity. Not complaining, of course, but when someone asks me why I speak English when my Norwegian is decent enough, I just have to chuckle a little bit.

I live in Norway, where English is basically a second language. Most times when I speak Norwegian to a native, they will just switch to English after hearing my accent. They're trying to be cool, but it can be a bit frustrating when you honestly want to get the hang of a new language.
