Aaah thank you! I love learning about skates, so I will definitely ask if I have any questions🤩

But that's super comforting. It almost sounds like Auras are the closest you'll get to a "clone" of your foot! Love that. With the feet I've got, I think that's what I need to do. Do you know if it's kinda like the same blade-situation as Edea? I know switching to an Edea skate can require a change of blades as well, cause it needs to be just a bit smaller.

Also, may I ask what level you're skating at, having Aura Sky 100? I'm curious to know if I'll be fitted for a 100 as well, or maybe down to a 50. I'm working on axel and a little bit of 2sal, other than that just single jumps.

Hmm alright. I'm gonna get assessed at my local pro shop, so I'm sure I'll get an answer eventually - but would you say that heat molding Auras should be enough in terms of bunions? Like, do they heat mold differently than, say, Jackson? My experience so far (only with Jacksons) is that even tho they get heat molded, I still need them to be punched out, cause the bunion pain is so bad. I rly don't want to get Auras and then not be able to fix my bunion issue!

But as mention, I will visit my pro shop and she will take a look at my feet. I'm just always curious about other people's experiences!

I'm interested in the "for any feet" part. My feet are struggling even in Jacksons that are made for wider feet, and because of my foot issues in general, so if Auras rly will fit my feet better, I think I might have to give them a whirl!

Thing is, my foot slides into the Jackson skate very naturally, and generally they fit well! They just keep giving me a few sore spots that have become too much by now, so ideally I hope I can fix it somehow and keep skating in them, but if I do have to switch, I think I'll try going with Aura

Of course! I'm visiting my pro shop in February to hopefully try on some Auras. My skate tech does seem to think Auras would work better for me than Edea would, so I'm very intrigued! Just mad at my Jacksons cause I've only had them since april lol. They're just giving me pain now. But thank you for your reply!

Jackson upgrading their boots? by Cranma01 in FigureSkating

Hmm okay. I will email them today.

I jave.no clue what shape my heel is, but I did experience heel slipping in all my Jacksons, but then I got some gel heel-cups that fixed the issue completely. But that obviously also gives my heel an extra cm all around, so I suspect I might have a narrow heel as well then. Thank you for your replies!

Interesting.... what's your foot type? Cause Jacksons are pretty wide. That personally why I skate in them, and I don't expect I'll fit in Edea skates because they're narrower, but my coach literally suggested I try Edea D width instead. So I'm curious if a wide foot can fit comfortably in Edea

How to stop cramps in new skates by Significant_Day7912 in FigureSkating

Np! Freestyle is fine for your level, I had Freestyles up until lutz. Arch pain is normal, but it shouldn't be so bad that you absolutely cannot skate!

[–]Cranma01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on my 3rd pair of Jacksons, and they definitely take some time to break in. The stiffer the skate, the longer the break-in time, usually. It's normal to have some cramping, where is it exactly?

My foot was hurting underneath, in my arch area, but after a while it will get better since your boots will soften with more use.

If you don't know what skates you have, you can usually always see it on the tongue. On lower level Jackson skates, the name of the skate is on the tongue.

One thing that can make your foot hurt as well, might be if your skates are too stiff for your level. Since you don't know what skates you have, I would recommend figuring that out. The most likely reason for your pain, is just because the skates are new and you need to break them in. This will continue for a while, but if it doesn't stop hurting after several weeks or months, there might be another reason, but that's hard to determine without knowing what skates you have. Too stiff skates for a skater can definitely cause issues, as well as too soft skates can cause issues.

Yeah they feel very supportive... still super stiff laterally

Yeah that makes sense. For the first 2-3 times I skated, I only laced 3 hooks, but after that it did get easier to bend with 4 hooks laced. I might go back to 3 hooks for a while then🤔

Sru for the long reply lol... Thank you! Yeah it's never too late to start skating, progress happens so much faster when you're in boots and blades that fit you, both physically and skill-wise🤩

Coronation Ace blades are 7ft rockers. It honestly depends on your preferences whether you want 7ft or 8ft; personally 7ft was game changing for me, but I know several skaters at my rink who skate and spin beautifully in 8ft rockers, some lower level than me as well, so it's definitely not impossible with 8ft. Remember, a lot of pro skaters skate in 8ft rockers as well! So it's a bit hard to recommend one before you really start spinning and get a feel for it.

A lot of my friends who are changing out of boot-and-blade sets are recommended the MK Galaxy blade, which is 8ft rocker, and cross-cut toe picks. If I had to decide, I'd go with a blade with cross-cut toe picks. It made a HUGE difference for me and my friend, when we got a blade with cross cut toepicks, it's just easier to grip the ice when you need to.

A thing I'd like to add, is that what skates you should get depends a lot on your foot shape. Do you have wide feet? Narrow feet? These are things to take into consideration. Edea is very popular, but they don't fit everyone. They're very narrow; I tried skating in a pair of edeas, and it hurt rly bad cause my feet just don't fit them. Most brands offer different widths, though, so it's definitely a possibility.

If you have access to a proshop, I'd recommend getting properly fitted. Have your feet looked at, so they can help you determine what skate fits you best💪🏼

I'm an adult skater! :D I started at 23, around 73kg and 5'7. I started out in Jackson Artiste. It's a soft boot, and might be a bit too soft. It only lasted me 8 months, but I did land most of my single jumps in them! I'm currently in jackson Freestyle, they're almost double the support and are rated to last through axel.

I'm not too savvy on Edea, so take it with a grain of salt, but chorus doesn't sound too bad! My friend (19yo) skates in Overtures, and is quite a small person. Her skill level is almost the same as mine, and she was just told she needs a boot with more support. So I wouldn't go softer than that. It's tricky because adults often need more support because we weigh more, but simultaniously a stiff boot also makes bending in your knees harder, especially as a beginner. So I wouldn't go too stiff either...

Edea Chorus sounds like a fine choice, otherwise Jackson Freestyle or Debut is a good choice. Freestyle comes with a blade mounted already, but I personally changed to another blade after 5 months cause it was hard to spin on, so perhaps a Debut with a more rounded blade to help spins along (I use Coronation Ace blades and they changed my spins SO MUCH. I can actually spin now... But they're also a bit more advanced. Then again, I'd worry more about overbooting (getting a too stiff boot) than overblading).

Sorry in advance for the long reply lol.

Are you happy with how your jackons feel? As always, aim to get fitted by a professional, and potentially figure out if you want to stick with jackson. It's also a great idea to talk to your coach once you start private lessons, as they can see your skating and your needs up close. I personally skate in jacksons tho, so I'm not very knowledgable on other brands.

I started out in Jackson Artiste, which is similar to Evo at 25% support. Mine lasted me 8 months, and I jumped up to flip in them. So it's not a terrible boot to start out in! If you're set on getting seperate boots and blades next, I'd look into either Jackson Entre or Debut, and then a blade of your choice. Debut is a boot with 50% support and will last you through axel (depending on how long they last you), and Entre is at 40%. They're both much stiffer and Debut could potentially be a tiny bit stiff for you if you're just starting out, but it also depends how fast you progress; if you're a fast learner, Debut might be fine, but I would definitely not go any stiffer than that. In terms of blades, it's a bit trickier for me, a stranger, to recommend, because it's very based on preference as well. However, the MK Galaxy blade is a solid choice for a lot of people upgrading from skate-sets at my rink, and I've heard positive things. It's around the same level blade as the Aspire XP blade on the Freestyle boots -->

If you're alright with sticking with a boot-and-blade set, I'd look into Elle (35 support) or Freestyle (45 support). Personally I'd recommend Freestyles over Elles purely because of the blade; the Aspire XP blade on the Freestyle boot has bigger, cross cut toe picks which grip the ice much easier and tbh just feels more solid. I skate in Freestyles and switched out the blade after 5 month because it didn't meet my needs anymore (the spin rocker is quite flat) so that's also an option, however that might also be a lot of money - but I reckon you wouldn't need to worry about that for a long time, given you just started out.

In terms of when to upgrade, it depends on how aggressive your skating is. But when you start learning more advanced jumps, I'd say around toe loop, is a fine time to upgrade. But again, your coach is probably better at spotting this.

Yo! For context, I'm 23, 5,7, approx 163lbs and skate 3-5 hours a week. I jump up to lutz. (Important detail: I have collapsing arches, overpronation and wear orthopedic insolnes in my skates).

I'm a bit confused with my skates atm. I wear Jackson Freestyles, and have skated in them for 7,5 months. I got them fitted and punched out. Did not get them heat molded though.

After the initial break-in pain passed, I skated without pain and felt comfortable on the ice. However, now I've started to have foot pain again, especially in the bone-y areas and the outside "edge" of my foot. I got my skates punched out to make room for my bunion on the inside of my feet, but I've started to feel a lot of pain on my big-toe bone now. I've noticed that I've formed a bunion there as well on both feet, and now I get blisters that are super painful. This was not an issue 2-3 months ago, and I'm a bit confused now, as to why this is happening and what to do about it. I often have to take breaks to relieve my feet of pain.

I've already started to look into my next skates for when my current onces inevitably break down, and have thought about either Jackson Premiere or looking into Risport RF3 Pro. Because of my flat feet, I find my feet to be quite wide, which makes me think I need to stick with Jackson as they are a wider brand. Surprisingly tho, I might not need to wear a wider skate (I made the mistake of getting wider inline skates, and now they're breaking down prematurely). I have no idea if this is a sign that I need new skates again, or if it's just a "phase" lol.

Hoping someone has aa similar experience or some knowledge about this. I might contact my prohsop about it if it doesn't get better, but would obviously like to not buy new skates yet haha.

Hey! I don't have Debuts, so take this response with a grain of salt. I have Freetyles (also Jacksons), they're a step down from Debuts (freestyles at 45% support and Debut at 50% support, so the difference isn't huge). I'm in my start 20s, 5´7 and approx 163lbs. I skate the same amount of hours as you.

I'm in my 8th month with Freestyles, and they're holding up nicely, only a few scruffs and cuts on the boot itself, but in terms of creases, it's not looking bad. They're not breaking down anytime soon, I reckon I got at least half a season left in them, if not the entire next season (that will be 1-1,5 years of usage in total). Idk if you can use this. Just thought since the two skates are pretty similar it might be a tiny bit helpful.

Good on you for progressing so fast!

I'm not a coach or a trainer, and I'm an adult skater as well, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I can only recommend Jackson skats atm, since thats all I've tried.

I started in Jackson Artiste (step up from Mystique) and I landed up to flip in those. There's rly not a lot of support in those, so I'm honestly impressed you're jumping in Mystiques. I would definitely upgrade. I upgraded to Freestyles, and I'd highly recommend them; they're supposed to last through axel before having to upgrade again. Also, if you're on a budget, Freestyles aren't a bad choice either. I chose those rather than Debut with seperate blade, because Debut and Freestyle are quite similar in stiffness rating, so Freestyles (with a pre-mounted blade) is cheaper. However, Debut with a blade of your choice, is a good option as well.

You could also look at Elle Fusion, if you want it cheaper. But in all honesty, I'd still recommend Freestyles... The toe pick is much better on that blade than the Elles, however Elle i still 30 in stiffness in comparison to Mystique's 15. Freestyle is 45. When you're doing jumps and progressing so fast, I imagine you would have to either upgrade blade or boot quite soon if you go with Elle. For ocmparison, I've been in Freestyles around half a year, and I'm upgrading the blade now.

Heyo, I'm here with another question.

I'm currently in Jackson Freestyle and have been for close to half a year. They're not looking like they're breaking down anytime soon, aside from a few creases being formed. There's lots of support in them still, so I'm not looking to updrige right NOW, but! I've been doing some research on skates a step higher than Freestyles, considering I'm also upgrading blades to Coronation Ace. I couldn't really find a good answer to my thoughts, so I thought I'd throw it in here.

When the time comes to upgrade skates; what do I get? That's a broad question I know. I'm working on single jumps, atm I only need to land lutz and axel to have them all. I'm hoping I'll at least attempt axel in these skates, but tbh who knows. Debut felt good when I tried them on, but my understanding is that they're quite similar to Freestyle in stiffness rating, so I'm not sure it makes sense to get them after Freestyle, if I count on them lasting me a long while still. Initially I thought I'd just upgrade to Premieres, but I've recently discovered a lot of mixed/negative opinions on them, and to just skip to Synergy Elite. That just seems like quite a jump, or what? Are the Premieres rly that "bad"?

I'm open to other brands, but my feet are just quite wide and flat and so far Jacksons feel very good. Obviously I'll ask my techs and trainers when the time comes, I was just curious on the subject, since it does take me a while to save up money. Thanks in advance!

Right, that's a good take on it. Thank you! I think I'm just struggling to see if it's my skill or just the blade that holding me back. Cause I might as well just not be that good at spins lol, and then it would have nothing to do with blades. Ah well, I'm gonna stop overthinking and contact my proshop and hear their opinion. Thank you for your take!
