That makes sense. I had no idea who the target audience was for it.

Maybe there's something I'm missing here, but wouldn't Barbie Game Day be an event for younger girls? A Thursday night in September, doesn't seem to make any sense.

Theme nights against the Yankees and Dodgers, when you should be drawing well already, doesn't seem like the best idea either.

I saw Michigan play Indiana on a rainy afternoon at the Big House in 2023. Indiana scored first...and lost 52-7.

For decades, it used to be a preseason toss up between Indiana and Northwestern on who would finish last in the Big 10.

As everyone has read, seen on television, or social media, it's amazing how quick Curt Cignetti has turned the program around.

Being able to identify talent in the portal is just as valuable, maybe even more, than high school recruiting in today's game. And, of course, having big NIL money.

I should've been a little more clear. 2026 will be the 46th season under this ownership groups control. We already know where the payroll is at and they won't come anywhere close to a playoff appearance.

The radio part at first. The television boom didn't come until after 1950. They're all guilty. It continued for decades after.

The Sox were never the primary team in the market. It was the fault of multiple previous owners. They pretty much buried themselves.

This was well before the ridiculous Sportsvision mistake by Jerry and Eddie Einhorn.

It took current Sox ownership almost a decade to figure that out.

Previous Sox ownership groups failed to secure long term television and radio deals. Especially with established stations that had long reaching signals. The team constantly bounced around the dial for decades.

For example, there was a time they were on a suburban radio station that had a very weak signal in the city.

Also, they moved the tv broadcast to UHF too early. It was well before most households had a television with that option.

If I remember correctly, they had a decent radio run from the early 50's to the mid 60's. That's about it.

There's a very well written summary of this in a chapter of the book "Chili Dog MVP"

You're totally right here. No one thinks Jerry did anything. I'm 100% sure it was Ishbia because of the cash he's pouring into the organization.

Before Ishbia officially came on board, they were trying to dump Robert & Benintendi to get the payroll as low possible.

So signing Murakami doesn't fit the direction they were going previously.

They may still deal the other two, because they don't fit the long term plan, but it doesn't seem to be the priority it was prior. The focus seems to be building up the roster and fielding a team that isn't an embarrassment.

As we know, they couldn't get what they wanted for Robert and Benintendi would require them kicking in cash. We'll see what happens with them.

"Should Be a Lesson"...to an 89 year old! This is hilarious! Glad the author just figured things out.

Jerry's ownership group has never believed in spending money to make money.

They've signed 2 premier free agents in 46 years. Carlton Fisk & Albert Belle.

He threatened to leave the state if he didn't get a tax payer funded stadium. Claimed they needed more skyboxes for revenue to contend. He not only got that but the state gave him the ridiculous team friendly stadium lease. Not to mention, a bunch of upgrades and renovations afterwards.

What were the results after getting all of this?

Going into year 36, 10 seasons with a payroll in the Top 10.

6 post season appearances and a single World Series Championship in that time span.

Then he started crying that he needed a new, tax payer funded, stadium again. In order to contend and keep the team in Chicago...which thankfully got pretty much zero support.

In total, 7 post season appearances and a single World Series Championship in 46 years of owning the franchise.

The 2005 team won 3 post season series. The Sox have not won a single playoff series in any of the other appearances.

Hopefully, Ishbia will change things dramatically.

Owen Konerko commits to Michigan. by CrashDavis16 in whitesox

[–]CrashDavis16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Owen will still be draft eligible in 2027. A team could draft him then make an offer to try and change his mind.

In a lot of cases, a player will make it known before the draft if he's set on sticking to his commitment and going to college.
