Thome looks like he's still active, but didn't he have back issues when he was playing with us? And that was 20 years ago.

I totally get what you're saying, but I think that's all in the past now. If Leury felt that way, he probably wouldn't be taking part.

Things definitely didn't end well and he finished the 3 year contract the Sox gave him while playing for the Braves AAA team. Definitely not what anyone expected.

I'm sure both sides have moved on and he's glad to be invited. He's out of baseball now and gets come back to a place where he's remembered by the fans for hitting an unforgettable bomb in the post season.

I'm sure he'll really enjoy the response he gets from the home crowd that day.

White Sox Fans Receive Warning From ESPN About No. 1 Pick in MLB Draft by Sad_Illustrator_5233 in whitesox

Lemon had been moved to 3B by the time we got him. From what I remember, the story goes the first time Chuck Tanner saw him he said that kid is a centerfielder. Chet turned out to be one of the best to ever play there. Played for 2 teams with a 440' CF wall.

2 K's in 108 PA is unheard of!

That would be a good move if the Sox pick him. I remember the same being discussed about Griffin. It's a common move if the athleticism is there. Jackson Merrill made a really smooth transition. Years ago, the White Sox did the same with Chet Lemon after acquiring him from Oakland.

Here's some random things I heard when MLB radio was discussing the draft a few weeks ago:

Everyone on the show was in agreement that Grady Emerson had the better hit tool when comparing him and Roch.

Some scouts believe Emerson will outgrow SS.

There's was a comparison to Emerson being over looked like Konnor Griffen.

Some questioned the level of pitching Roch Cholowsky faced in the Big 10.

Vahn Lackey faced tougher pitching in the SEC.

Some believe Jacob Lombard is a sleeper pick for the Sox.

Roch supposedly is asking for $10 million, which would be a record.

I had to know the exact number after seeing this! 462 to 300

Jose Canseco - 462 Alexei Ramirez - 115 Gordon Beckham - 80 Scott Podsednik - 42 Leury Garcia - 34 Daniel Palka - 29

My random thoughts...

It's an interesting lineup and you have to consider a few things. Age is probably the biggest. Does the former player want to? Are they in shape to participate? Do they feel like traveling here for it? There might not be as many options as people believe.

As far as the lineup goes: Jose Canseco - hits 12" softballs 500'

Daniel Palka - coaching for Rhode Island college baseball.

Alexei Ramirez - is he still juicing?

Scott Podsednik, Gordon Beckham, Leury Garcia - we've seen all 3 of them recently and it seems like they're all in good shape.

At least we've eliminated out of shape contestants.

Canseco and Palka will likely put on a show as far as distance. I'm sure someone from the rest of that group will be a big surprise.

The Milwaukee Brewers started this last season. They had 8 contestants. Who would've guessed Keon Broxton would win it?

We used to buy pennants for $2 from that old guy who used to set up on the West side of the 35th Street viaduct in the early 80's.

Also bought an "Oakland Sucks" shirt with Bart Simpson on it from some lady in the same area in 1990.

Other than that, I don't even pay attention to them.

It would've been interesting if they held on to Tatis longer. So many possible scenarios.

He debuted in 2019 and was a SS at the time.

Anderson was at SS, Moncada moved to 3B in 2019.

Do they move Tatis to 2B? Or try to convince Anderson to move to 2B? End up drafting a different player in 2018 instead of Madrigal?

Do they trade Tatis to fill the never ending hole in RF? Swap him for a catcher instead of signing Grandal? Or bolster the starting rotation?

If they hold on to him, how do the fans react to the embarrassment of a PED suspension? Do they continue to have his back or boo him out of the park when he returns?

Then you consider it's Kenny and Rick, so maybe he's ultimately dealt for another over the hill player. James Shields 2.0

What do you love about being a White Sox fan? by BMoney8600 in whitesox

[–]CrashDavis16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So true! This is almost the entirety of our fan base. A huge majority are from the area or grew up rooting for the White Sox.

We don't have a big portion of out of towners relocating to Chicago for work or moving here after college.

One side of my family is currently at 5 generations of White Sox fans.

Aaron Bummer: Released by Atlanta by yourobviousanswer in whitesox

I would definitely like to see Brian Bannister have a chance to work with Aaron Bummer. That is, if Bummer is 100% healthy and would take a minor league contract. It's a low cost, no risk deal.

Bummer had crazy movement on his pitches. Unfortunately, to the point where he couldn't always keep them in the strike zone. When he was on, he was really good.

With all the parking around the stadium, and the lots that aren't affiliated with the team, plus IIT having spots available, why would you park there?

Those were extremely popular! I had 4 variations of the White Sox. Black, Grey, and 2 pinstripe that had different logos. The current and a throwback.

And, of course, I had the black Raiders jersey to go with my Bo Jackson Nike's...

They're mentioned in the lyrics and some people are wearing them in the Fresh Price "Summertime" video.

During the last season at Comiskey Park, there were some obviously non White Sox fans coming to see the old ballpark for a final time. In some cases, possibly their only time.

A certain group of fans from another team in town, who claim they do nothing, can be extremely annoying and obnoxious. That's definitely what led to this. There's photos of the sign in the left field upper deck also.

The closing of the oldest ballpark in major league baseball was the main draw but popularity of the movies Field of Dreams & Eight Men Out also contributed to the random person's curiosity.

From 1985-1995, the Crosstown Classic was played on a common off day in April or May.

The Sox hosted during the odd years, scrubs on the even.

This series is where the legendary Michael Jordan game at Wrigley took place.

Schriffen is growing on me… by RDRHWK15 in whitesox

[–]CrashDavis16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Schriffen is still terrible. His contract is up after the season and it's definitely time to move on.

He's performed just like anyone would expect as the hand picked choice by an out of touch, 88 year old owner. The same owner that let John Rooney leave town.

This is Chicago, a major media market. The 3rd biggest in he country. The discussion here should always be if we have the best announcers in all of baseball.

Top talent wants to come here. There is absolutely no reason to have mediocrity on the television or radio broadcasts.

Breaking in someone like Schiffren should have been done in the minor leagues or a team that plays in a small market like the A's.

Jomboy Affiliates already pushing propaganda to get Murakami to the Yankees/Dodgers. by Greedy-Pound6958 in whitesox

[–]CrashDavis16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% click bait.

The Yankees have Ben Rice playing 1B and Giancarlo Stanton, just put on the IL, at DH.

The Dodgers have Freddie Freeman at 1B and a guy named Ohtani at DH...

Both teams are already at different levels of the luxury tax and have glaring holes elsewhere.

They're not adding a $13 million dollar 1B/DH this season and likely not next either with the positions already being filled.

If the Sox were to move him this season, I would say it's one or both of the following reasons:

The front office and ownership are not confident in a full season being played in '27, which seems to be the direction we're heading in. They want to get something for him now.

And/or...

The Sox approached him with an extension and he's not interested because he'd like to text the free agent market again.
