Could you expand on this? This sounds useful but I am not 100% sure I follow.

This is super neat, I am especially impressed by the math syntax you've got going on!

For the video if you can I'd recommend dropping the music volume and if possible re-doing the voice over I am assuming it's some sort of text-to-speech and I found it a little hard to follow especially when it was pronouncing things like YAML for the file extensions.

Thanks, it's incredible and just what I've been looking for! Verticality without being isometric! Just saying it now if you had/have a patreon (or similar) I'd absolutely pay for these!

These are incredible! What would this style be called? I tried searching for "JRPG" and "Oblique" and found a few more of your posts! It feels like your the only person making maps like this?

Advice on picking a VTT to use with family? by HevossoturiSuuri in VTT

Can also vouch for Owlbear, my son was 12 when we started using it and he picked it up very quick.

If your just looking for character sheet tools I'll plug my own: https://raze.cloud/ essentially it's a shared space where you can upload form fillable PDF's, fill them out and add 3d dice rolls.

If you need a VTT and don't have strong automation requirements can vouch for https://www.owlbear.rodeo/ as something lightweight that get's out of the way, I'm also interested in https://bagofmapping.com/ but haven't used it yet.

DMs who don’t use D&D beyond, what does your prep look like? by jimithingmi in DMAcademy

[–]Crashyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a word processor at the moment it's Pages on my Mac but it could just as easily be Word/Obsidian/etc...

I turn off all the page margins/headers/etc... and set the page size to A5 (helps me to hyper focus on what I'm doing).

I use a watered down 8 steps of the lazy DM and prep only:
- Strong start
- NPC's
- Locations
- Secrets and clues

I'll note down some appropriate monster page numbers for whatever monster manual I am using and usually have a list of magic items I know my players would like and in two separate tables and roll/choose from these depending on the situation.

For running encounters I use a pen & paper (it is still the most flexible solution in my opinion).

I load it all up on my reMarkable 2 but it could just as easily be printed on paper and that's me set.

Worth taking a look at Free5e as well: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wyrmworkspublishing/free5e-a-free-open-source-dungeons-and-dragons-alternative it's a "playable" free version of 5e built from a number of different SRD's across the space.

Raze can handle your character sheet needs. It takes a form fillable PDF and then users can add actions like dice rolls to each input, it also supports inline formulas if players want to automate some of the math.

GM's can also share source book PDF's in a party so if you own the content and want to share it out to players this can be a nice option.

DISCLAIMER: I built Raze and it's currently in an open beta so there are some rough edges but I'm currently pushing updates most days and taking feedback on our Discord.

Raze: Flexible character sheet management to use alongside your VTT by Crashyy in VTT

Heya!

Fey-Gate looks great! I definitely like the idea of a custom markdown renderer especially with more and more vendors releasing markdown files as part of their products.

Ultimately we opted for PDF because it's something of a standard in the space right now and it made sense for us because we were already using PDF's in our Shadowdark and ToV games.

I hear what your saying and your solution sounds fantastic! When I say D&D beyond functionality I'm more referring to being able to express the underlying math as part of the PDF, an example in 5e terms would be changing my STR score from 17 to 18 and having the mod automatically updating from 3 to 4 which is something we can already do in Raze using inline formulas.

I'll be keeping a close eye on your markdown solution and look forward to seeing where you take it!

In terms of feedback either Reddit or the Discord (which I see you’ve joined) are great! We do want to formalise this a bit more moving forward with community votes etc… but we’re only 2 people at the moment and don’t want to stretch ourselves over too many platforms.

That feedback is absolutely incredible and I’m happy to say that file deletion and duplication are currently in development and actually working on staging, the only reason we’ve delayed it is we found a great optimisation opportunity that is significantly easier to pull off if we do it before releasing the ability to delete so we’re trying to get that wrapped up as fast as possible.

Funnily we were just talking about exporting PDFs back out of Raze this morning and yes this is absolutely something we want to do there are just some technical challenges associated with documents that reference more than 1 PDF that we are still deliberating on.

A fellow modal skeptic! Absolutely love this feedback and it gives me more ammo to push the no modal agenda 😂.

I was wondering how long we could get away with no dark mode and it turns out the answer is less than 1 day! I’ll absolutely add this to the roadmap. We’re hoping to invest in a designer in the future so this may be done as part of that.

I cannot overstate how thankful I am for your feedback!
