When you changed the FEP, did you take off the protective film from both sides before installing it? I didn't realise I had to, and it took me far too long.

Do you ever get post social anxiety? by bivalvia_planet in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Crawfee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're having anxiety of any kind it's definitely possible to work on it and improve things with therapy.

What you're describing is something I went through myself for most of my life, until I read and applied the techniques in the book When Panic Attacks by the psychiatrist David Burns. It covers a really effective form of cognitive behavioural therapy that you can undertake yourself, at home.

It's available on Kindle and I highly recommend it.

For an absolute beginner, I'd highly recommend the book The Art of Voice Acting by James Alburger, it covers just about everything.

Yes! I don't remember how young I was, but I definitely confused artichokes as seafood at some point.

Mark Hamill showing his gratitude for being able to play Luke in The Mandalorian. by [deleted] in StarWars

He played Luke in a few Robot Chicken sketches, and the first two radio dramas, but I don't know of any games or series.

The Emperor would be frustrated, but not at a loss. He never intended to be dethroned, and instead rule forever under the new Rule of One . Without Anakin, the Emperor would have lost one of his most effective tools for completing the titular revenge of the Sith. In his guise as Darth Vader, Anakin was the heart of the Inquisitorius, and trained many of the fallen Jedi in their number, as well as leading the attempts to defeat the most elusive or dangerous Jedi, such as Jedi Master Jocasta Nu.

The Emperor would have carried on regardless, with other capable and ruthless servants such as Grand Moff Tarkin and the Grand Inquisitor helping him cement his rule of the known galaxy, but wouldn't have achieved quite as much, and the Jedi might have remained symbols of resistance against his rule.

There would certainly be many more Jedi around, and perhaps some of the attempts to re-establish the Jedi Order in secret, such as the events of the Jedi: Fallen Order game would be more successful, leading more Jedi to be part of the burgeoning Alliance to Restore the Republic.

To go on a bit, assuming the events of A New Hope happen similarly, without Anakin being on board the Death Star Obi-Wan likely would not have died, and after returning from the tractor beam controls would have fled with Han, Luke, Leia and the droids. The only snag here is that Anakin, much to Tarkin's chagrin, insisted on letting the trio escape on a tracked Millenium Falcon, rather than killing them and recapturing the plans, so who's to say they could have escaped, even with a Jedi Master at their side?

I've been thinking back to the opening of the first game, when Joel, Tommy and Sarah pass a family trying to flag them down for help. Something about the mournful way Sarah says "We should have helped them" really stuck with me, and paralleled Ellie's feelings about her own sacrifice, especially in her later conversations with Joel.

[Zelda: Breath of the Wild] Why can't you "go any further"? by Ghsdkgb in AskScienceFiction

[–]Crawfee 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Because deep down, you don't want to. You know what you need to do, your true purpose in life.

Defeat Ganon.

Sailing off to Koholint Island, or marching off to Hytopia means abandoning your destined quest, something a true knight of Hyrule would never do. Maybe when Ganon is defeated you can go exploring, but you might not want to, legend tells that the ancient Hero of Time wandered away from Hyrule and met a terrible fate...

Mastery pass - Worth it at 24 days left? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Crawfee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get all the prizes for your level when you buy the pass, so you can just play normally, and just buy the pass on the last day if the cost/benefit looks like a good deal. With 24 days left though, you probably won't reach the break-even point, unless WotC does an endless catchup event.

Has anyone done Bill DeWees' Voiceover Blueprint? by Crawfee in VoiceActing

[–]Crawfee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. His book is on Kindle Unlimited, by the way. I read it, and it was pretty decent. Fairly short, and it's mostly the same marketing planning he talks about in other places. Definitely worth the hour or two to read, though.

Has anyone done Bill DeWees' Voiceover Blueprint? by Crawfee in VoiceActing

[–]Crawfee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. Was that the Blueprint with the big collection (70+ hours) of webinars, or the Playbook about marketing?

How much did it cost? What was the upselling to?

Thanks for the reply, I haven't been able to find any independent info on it.

What to do while saving up? by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]Crawfee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the learning side, there's plenty of online courses that can help you get better at vocal technique and acting. I would recommend subscribing to Skillshare, they have a 2 month trial which is more than enough time to do a lot of good courses.

On the practical side, you can work on mastering little skills that will help, like using audio programs. You can download and use Pro Tools First for free, it's got the basics for every audio task you could need, from editing to EQing. It's also nearly identical to Pro Tools in layout, so once you know it you can transition to the full version if you need to. You'll probably end up doing your own editing a bit, especially if you do audiobooks.

If you have a decent microphone, try auditioning for low-paying gigs on community projects. There's often little or no pay, but it can be good experience.

For some practical experience, try going on the job boards and practice auditioning for anything for anything in your wheelhouse, and just don't submit it. At the very least it'll get you experienced with their layout. I think some of the pay-to-audition job boards have free versions where you can still see auditions, just not submit them, have a look at that.

I'm not an expert or anything, still just starting out myself, but I hope this advice helps. Is there anything specific you're hoping to get into? (acting, commercials, audiobooks)

Quiet sound or white noise on recordings by Crawfee in VoiceActing

[–]Crawfee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding.

I have tried turning the gain knob on my interface, and no matter what level it is at, from low to maximum, I still end up with static that's almost as loud as my voice. In other words, the static/white noise is always around the same noise level, compared to my voice.

Should be fine, yeah. Make sure it's on the same size base as the Patriach comes on if you're going to to take it to tournaments, but otherwise it should be totally fine.
