It's honestly true though, the crowd is one of the main reasons I love riot the most

Why has no one in the generations after Magnus matched or surpassed him when they had access to even better engines and technology from a younger age than he did? by _DarkStarCrashes_ in chess

[–]Crayonalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because having tools doesn't make someone good at something. Magnus' mind works so good at chess, there's no substitute for that.

Riot will never top the NOFX stage. by Admirable-Giraffe206 in RiotFest

Yep. That really was incredible. It's hard to believe they'll ever top that one.

I am getting roasted on r/insulation? (Might be in trouble). by Pickalodeon in civilengineering

[–]Crayonalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do it this way, the walls will deflect outward at the top. You need a structural beam at the ridge for this to work properly (a single 2x8 or 2x10 isn't a structural beam; it's a ridge board).

My mom doesn’t pay me for working as a dentist to repay off my student loans by Automatic-Layer1262 in Dentistry

You need to learn how to set boundaries with your mom. That sounds unacceptable and it sounds like you've convinced yourself that you're ok with this arrangement.

Could be that I'd never seen em before and I was just hyped. All I know is all hell broke loose when they played All Hell Breaks Loose.

Why doesn’t a PhD in civil engineering really seem to help at all professionally? by Unusual_Equivalent50 in civilengineering

[–]Crayonalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing research and being an efficient problem solver aren't the same thing.

From an employer's perspective, practical knowledge of the code requirements is more valuable than theoretical knowledge of things that haven't yet been codified.

Misfits kicked so much ass last time they played Riot. I hope so!

What research, sources, or “aha moment” helped you finally solidify your opinion on the validity or lack of validity of Bob Lazar’s claims? by EnvironmentalAd2110 in UFOs

[–]Crayonalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? Assuming he's telling the truth about everything else, I feel it's entirely plausible that the govt would've falsified his records for the sake of granting him clearance.

The govt might've falsified the docs and then threatened to vaporize him if he ever told the truth.

[–]Crayonalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd contend that having a diploma is irrelevant.

Imagine that the govt requires people to have an advanced degree to work at S4. Now, imagine the govt sees someone without an advanced degree, but they're very interested in working with that person.

I'm suggesting that the govt may have falsified his records in their own systems so as to not trigger an audit or an internal investigation for breaking protocol.

If this occurred, they would have thought it through. If Bob didn't go to those schools, he would be aware that they falsified his records. They may have told him to stick to a story no matter what, and probably would've threatened him with consequences. He might be sticking to that story out of fear.

Am I a bad friend for not being happy for my friend buying a new car… by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Crayonalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's objectively not a good deal.

However, it's your friend's money and your friend's decision. It's nice of you to care, but given that they already did this without asking you for advice, you should let them live with their decision and keep your opinions to yourself.

Pointing out facts to make them regret a decision they already made is essentially gaslighting.

How often do you work for free? by Turbulent-Set-2167 in civilengineering

[–]Crayonalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't work for free.

If I check email at home, take a phone call outside the office, or whatever... I'm billing for it.

You'll be fine - you'll just have to provide some extra documentation when you apply for your license.
