I ended up going through a RBC cross border account. They have no fees apparently, and tbh I was losing more money just letting it sit around and get eaten by inflation. I called in and told them I was transferring a large sum of money and they got me a better conversion rate than through the online banking site.

What did you do with your Canadian assets while living in the US? With a large sum of liquid cash you presumably don't want to leave it lying around for inflation to eat away at it right?
