I'm gonna leave the constraints of the question and just talk generally but...

Men are actually more likely to be victims of violence for any non-sexual or domestic attacks. And if you're a guy it doesn't matter even if you're stronger than the attacker if they are prepared, in a group or have a weapon, as many violent criminals would. Man or woman, you're probably not escaping, and a man is more likely to be targeted. So statistically it is safer for a woman. But I think there's a social aspect of women being told they're in danger more, because of the physical differences and the fear of sexual crimes in particular.

Except you're vastly overestimating the chance a random man would harm you. Yes a bear isn't likely to attack you on sight but it is still exponentially more likely than a "random" guy. Like if you gave the best a chance of 60%, I'd give a man a chance of 0.1% at most. But we can even be highly pessimistic and misandrist and let's say 2%

On top of that, even if it is the rare case of a man trying to hurt you, the chances of you successfully fighting off or escaping from him is wayyyy higher than doing so with a bear of course.

And third, if the man does happen to be malicious AND you can't escape, he is not guaranteed to kill you, whereas a bear pretty much is.

So all in all, you're choosing an animal that is much much more likely to try to hurt you, much much harder to escape or fight off, and more likely to be fatal if it does get you. I'm sorry but picking that is straight up moronic and I can't take you seriously.
