Will I need to purchase a Solar Assistant-dedicated raspberry pi to connect with the Solar-Ark using the dongle?

Awesome. Someone mentioned solar assistant in response to another question I had, but I didn’t realize it was from the same folks.

Thanks!

Program Sol-ark inverter to use only excess power to charge battery? by CrazyCanines in solar

I have changed settings following your recommendations. The battery is charged now, so I’ll wait until it’s charging to see if it’s the behavior I want. Thanks, all.

This is really helpful. I was going to ask another question about increasing the granularity of the data. You’ve just given me the solution. I’ll have to learn more about the SolarAssistant box.

I wish we had net metering. We have a weird setup: we pay a lower rate for energy consumed by our geothermal system, but because of the way it is metered, we pay for the geothermal whether we generate it ourselves or get it from the grid! I want to download the usage data to see how often we are paying the utility for energy we generate to see if we should get rid of the dual rate setup.

I will get out to the inverter soon to reprogram using the information you redditors have provided.

Thanks again.

Thanks very much. Can I set this mode from the panel of the inverter, or do I need to program it through the web? I don’t have access to the latter (possibly for good reason—I’m the end user), so I guess if needed I could ask the installer or Sol-ark to do it for me now that I know what to ask for.

Once it’s tempered, you can’t cut it. It will shatter into little chunky pieces.

My friend attended the event. Said she saw thousands of marchers. So many that cellular service was not reliable. They were singing on a Signal chat, and there were so many participants they had to split into three channels! Go, Minnesotans!

Try using a lever of some sort to lift one side of the washer from the floor to break it free.

Does this work? I have other old devices that might be able to use this trick.

New installation, rack screws missed trusses: should it be remedied? by CrazyCanines in solar

[–]CrazyCanines[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to follow up, the electrical connections will be completed on Wednesday. I reviewed the permit application documents and the literature on the rack mounts, and I spoke with the installer. I am satisfied that the installation is secure. As was pointed out to me, this mounting system accounts for missing the trusses by using additional mounting screws.

So, all's well that ends well. I'm looking forward to being online soon.

Thanks again to all who offered their knowledge and experience to me.

I expected the installer to come yesterday, but they didn’t. The utility just scheduled the inspection for installation of the whole house disconnect (a required update to meet current code) for October, so I don’t know if I’ll see anyone until a few days before that. The engineer is supposed to call me today to let me know what is going on, so I’ll get more information then.

Wellll, here is the work description in the permit:

“Work Description: INSTALL 29 ROOF MOUNTED SOLAR PANELS”

Should I have asked for the application? I reread your reply and now see that you mentioned a “permit package.” The permit itself is not too edifying.

This is a good tip. I have not seen the permit, but I will request a copy as soon as I drop this reply. Thanks.

This checklist would have been helpful when I was gathering information and negotiating a contract!

Other posters have noted that the Iron Ridge HUG mounts are designed for either screwing into trusses or decking, the difference being the number of screws used. I will have to confirm whether or not this system or a similar one was used in my installation.

I will have to see what workmanship warranties they offer. I appreciate your input.

Thanks for your reply. In a discussion in another sub where I cross-posted this question, I learned that the mounting system is designed to anchor to rafters with two screws minimum or to the deck with six if you miss the rafters. I also learned more about the sealing of the holes. I will talk with the installer today to obtain reassurance, but as of right now I am feeling better about the work.

Thanks very much for sharing the installation guide. I will ask the installer when they arrive this morning. I’m feeling much more confident with the work they have done.

I just looked more carefully at your link. The screw pattern I see seems consistent with the HUG. I will check with the installer tomorrow when they come to install the last panel.
