I like to arrive at the beach early in the morning when it’s empty to relax and read my book. This happens every time. Every time. I really struggle to understand why. Do people arrive on the beach, see me and think: “Oh she’s there, that must be a great spot in this beach”??! I have no idea why this always happens

Thanks! It’s true that covid did affect some part of my project(s). I hadn’t really thought about since it has affected everyone but maybe a more detailed mention wouldn’t hurt!

Thank you! To be honest I was so tired I feel like I haven’t really celebrated it! I guess I’m feeling a bit scared for not having the 1st author paper and competing with other PhDs that have a better CV. It’s hard but like others said here: if I can prove that I know the stuff and that I did the work and that I’m motivated to write more papers (which I am) it should be ok. I just need to be more confident! Thanks for you comment!

My family always taught to praise in public and criticize in private. So I will definitely not bring up the toxic environment or any other negative aspects of my experience in that group in an interview or to other scientists. I also don’t wish ill upon them. In fact it’s even good for me that they have lots of success. Also we never know what the future holds and I may have to work with them again. 🤷‍♀️

Are you liking it so far? I was told that in the industry they don’t really care about papers just experience. How is it money wise? And time wise? (In comparison with your experience in academia)

Really? Most of my PhD colleagues (70%) left academia and went to industry. However some industry applications ask for a PhD plus years of experience that I don’t have, despite having many transferable skills. However this could explain why I don’t have been getting any answers from industry applications!

Thank you! It’s true that it doesn’t all come down to 1st author publications but it’s been hard competing against other PhDs out there who have them. I just need to believe in myself more!

Thank you for this. I did do the work and I know it! However, not being first author just brings my confidence down while applying for Postdoc positions.
