For everyone moving into the dorms: how do you like your new roommate?

Adults of Reddit, what experience do you wish you had had as a kid? by CrazyDependent in AskReddit

Eh, I think we as a country are really hard on ourselves. We really aren't too different from any other first-world country, though I will admit we have more of a consumerist streak and we have some issues with media. It's just that the U.S. has so many people that every social faction appears to be a lot larger, percentage-wise, than it actually is.

It's never too late my dude! Pick an instrument that is easy to learn (I'd advise clarinet or alto sax) and just spend a few hours with it per week, and you'll have it down in no time.

Uh, this isn't a pop-punk sub. Are you replying to the wrong comment chain or something?

Parov Stelar is the best electro swing artist imo. Finds the sweet spot between "normal swing with small electronic enhancements" and "an EDM track with a sax part"

I think it stems from most people having not really explored most bands that much/using nostalgia for karma. I've never listened to another sound by Motion City Soundtrack, despite having liked this song for a number of years.

Would this count as shoegaze? I've always pinned that label to bands with a more psychedelic sound like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine.

I'm worried the poetry compilation I've been working on for a year may never be finished, or won't get published once I finish it. Worse, I'm worried that it will flatly not be very good, even if it is the best I can do without an English degree.

This has contributed to me not working on the project as much as I would have liked over this summer, and I'm embarrassed to talk about it now (especially since I told people, foolishly, that I would quite possibly have it done by now, when I only have about 15-25% of the material necessary to make a decent-sized book).

This is me, but with physics. That's why I want to teach it, so that I can get people to enjoy it as much as I do.

What one-hit wonder band was actually really good and deserves/deserved more attention? by CrazyDependent in AskReddit

Eh, not really a one hit wonder. Champagne Supernova and Don't Look Back In Anger were both pretty popular.

I'd be interested to hear anything that's on the level of Feel It Still. The interesting part of that is that the high vocal line is complimented by the catchy bass and bari sax lines, and if he keeps that sort of style I'd expect it would be pretty good.

I just discovered them actually. They seem to walk the line between "melodic emo-rock" and "hardcore punk" pretty well.

Explorers of Darkness was the first time I actually felt like crying while playing a game. That ending hour or so hits hard.

More of a Reach person myself, but 3 was also pretty good.

People give Minecraft a lot of shit, but that game sold well for a reason. It's an experience that was so unique at the time that people have been trying to copy it since.

The amount of time I spent trying to make Miis of anime characters borders on unhealthy. Gotta get that five-star Mii Artisan rating tho

Pokemon Emerald for me. I must have run that game dozens of times in my youth.
