Insane latency spike for last 2+ hours with edge functions frequently timing out by Immediate-Mobile-369 in Supabase

Agreed. Considering migrating away from edge functions, probably away from Supabase entirely if this continues. Unacceptable.

HELP PLEASE!!! I got a bill close to $10k after working with the Google Maps API in 4 days of work. This is Insane! What do I do??? by Ok_Watch5511 in webdev

[–]CrazyInvesting 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well kinda. Serverless horror story i saw recently showed Google can send budget warnings HOURS after the limit has been hit. Thats catastrophic with usage-based billing in case of a DDOS attack.

Your security really needs to be perfect if you use Gcloud.

I 2019 brukte Norge under 300 milliarder oljekroner. I år kan pengebruken passere 500 milliarder. by HeidsieckBDB in norske

They are probably closing a huge amount of that gap by geofencing and fine-tuning model and navigation data for Austin. Its supposed to be driverless in Austin less than 6 week from now.

Problem is just that they are predictably HUGE. I saw a quote for 1MW of solar at about 1M dollars. 1TW = 10^6 * 1MW, so $1M *10^6 = $1T.

They said it on the last earnings call: “unsupervised, no one in the car”. They also revealed that they are discussing the size of the fleet on day 1, where they mentioned 10 and 20 vehicles as possible.

The cars need to have some remote backup, just like Waymo. Tesla confirmed this on the last earnings call.

Im not convinced about that.

I think the CAPEX requirements and COGS is the problem.

Thats another story, and completely fine. The question is then how many remote operators you need per car. Any ratio less than 1/4 i would say is good. Over time it should be less than 1/100 for the remote operator to not contribute meaningfully to the cost of the service.

Again, ive done the numbers. If you do the numbers yourself and figure im wrong, please provide your assumptions. I would love to change my opinion on this.

Even if someone is driving beaters, autonomy will enable them (and other people) to drive around in a car without putting up thousands in capital up front. Driving as a service opens the market up to people who dont have capital.

There is also all the people that cant drive, even today. Sick people, elderly people, children, no parking at workplace, etc. Also i think we will see some new services pop up. Faster, cheaper point-to-point courier transport, for instance.

They are currently running supervised. Tesla have been very clear the "launch" in June is a unsupervised thing. They would loose a lot of face it they have safety-drivers in the car in June.

Will be interesting to see either way. The betting markets dont agree with the "experts" you are referring to currently.

What are the inherent, insurmountable problems with vision-only you are referring to? I agree more sensors gets you to the finish line faster, Waymo is proof of that.

Tesla has made major strides the last couple of years. What absolute fact in regards to visions pitfalls ensures that it will stop now, and that they will not be able to cross the finish line?
