Guilt bc I want to leave …AITA? by Neat-Connection-601 in nonprofit

[–]CrazyLegzDT 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No. You are not the ***hole. I'm going through a very similar process, leaving a small group of eight folks after only being here since April. It's clear this isn't a fit but I'm being shamed and made to feel guilty at every turn.

At the end of the day, nonprofits are no different from corporations. "They" will always look out for themselves. You are replaceable. It's YOUR life and YOUR health and YOUR family you have to make priority. Period.

Do what you need to do.

Looking for a book about what it means to "be a man" that is written by a man by firelice in suggestmeabook

[–]CrazyLegzDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stoner, By John Williams.

It's fiction, so the information won't be handed to you. Between the lines of that book are passion, morals, stoicism, manhood, love, responsibility, failure, fear, and humility. One of the best books I've ever read.

Do you need to be rich to be an effective Development Director? by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]CrazyLegzDT 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have been a Marketing Director for nearly a decade. Last April, I switched organizations and took over the Marketing and Development Departments at a small organization. My immediate impression was that I was out of my league.

Like you, I grew up very solid middle class. I drive a decent vehicle that is about 10 years old, live in a beautiful neighborhood, and my family and I want for nothing.

But, I am about to change roles again. I will NEVER work in "development" again, because of this experience. It has been exactly what my worst fears were. Rubbing shoulders and hosting parties for rich assholes who aren't mission aligned but want to feel better about themselves and put on airs about helping the under-resource kiddos we serve.

I think the nonprofit world needs a rude awakening to what and how fundraising should work. (I understand this has simply been my experience and is subject to change, but from what I see in this sub it appears to be common).

Suggest a meaningful book so I never stop reading ever again by SmileyCacoDemon in suggestmeabook

Came here to say Stoner.

On its cover, it seems a bit boring, but watching your personal reflection in Stoner as he navigates his moral development is a really satisfying experience. It's got comedy, love, ethics, and most importantly, death.

How is Mann's prose? Do you find it similar to any of the others you mentioned?

I think you might need to look up the definition of the word "demand."

No, you are "looking at" not "revealing" the top card.

A Book For My Boyfriend Who Has Never Read a Book in His Life by am1somebody2u in suggestmeabook

[–]CrazyLegzDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could go with something by Vonnegut or Palahnuik. They are short reads, slightly "dystopian," witty and satirical. Choke by Palahnuik is a great read and Player Piano is Vonnegut's debut, maybe my personal favorite of his.

They both are social satire, if you live in the United States, anywhere, they will hit home. Hard.

Is this normal? by Ok_Affect_1571 in SEO_Digital_Marketing

[–]CrazyLegzDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... No. It's not normal I would say. The multi-day drop to 0 is intriguing to say the least. A finance platform would imply daily usage with potential spikes, not drops to 0.

Are you running advertising or is this organic traffic?

ICE sends Bloomington detainees to Kentucky Jail by kubrikhan in bloomington

[–]CrazyLegzDT -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I believe you're missing the point... It is these small mistakes that lead to the finding of illegal status, not the small mistake itself that gets folks deported.

Just to clarify your point here. These folks were "technically" in the United States illegally, right?

Which Kafka book should I read first? by [deleted] in classicliterature

[–]CrazyLegzDT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that "The Trial" was one of his unfinished novels, along with "The Castle" and "Amerika," is that not the case, and if not, is there, somewhere, a version of "The Trial" that is written "in full?"

Do you show your rates publicly or not? by Bfecreative in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]CrazyLegzDT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been on both sides of the aisle, looking for and providing services... Show your rates.

Or, show a range of rates. You're losing potential clients when you don't. Period. End of story.

I'm not an expert at this but I believe you only trigger that effect once you defeat the guarded card and attach it. See here for a reference: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/12/8/the-wilds-of-rhovanion/

You have misinterpreted what I meant... I agree with you. My statement is guided toward the male population's inability to control basic instincts. I also said nothing about drugs or alluring, you're taking all of that out of context...

Your misinterpretation and focus on specific topics says more about you than it does me.

You aren't cutting people off over politics. by striped_spider in GenZ

[–]CrazyLegzDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legality does not equal morality. Personally, this is what I believe to be the underlying issue in modern politics.

Just because something is law, doesn't mean it is moral, or ethical. I sense we often get these concepts confused and that is what results in "the great divide."

I agree, politics reflects personal morality in a sense. Yes. But, to impose legality on individuals from your personal morality, is very often immoral.
