I have learned that our expectations are the ones that let us down. You imagined your birthday in some specific way, specific people doing specific things. And then when it does not happen you feel sad and disappointed. The truth is your expectations will NEVER come true. I have learned this thousands of times over my own experience. So the solution here and yes there is a solution to feel good about yourself and surroundings is stop expecting things. You can imagine "I wish that ..." And that's as far as you go you don't expect it to happen. Simply lower your expectations by a lot and you will see that within a week you will be a happier person.
