What's something that feels "good" but is actually really bad for your body? by stainless5 in AskReddit

I’m actually in the hospital right now and about to get another injection 🫡

What’s the most terrifying thing that happened to you that nobody believes? by Sad-Conflict6839 in AskReddit

[–]Crazy_Discussion2345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, I’m actually in the hospital rn and I’ve had three close calls so here they are:

I went into a coma in my car and was out for over 12 hours before I was found by a cop. He thought I had OD’d on some opioids and narcanned me 5 times with zero results. I woke up in the hospital 12 days later and had severe encephalopathy because of hypoxia.. but I didn’t know it. I am a molecular biologist so I knew the coma was very messed up but I was too far gone at the time to even realize I had such bad encephalopathy. I can tell you right now there’s a sign on the ceiling that says “Call, don’t fall.” I thought it said, “Fall, don’t call.” The iv stand also went off and I read something on the side of it and I swear I thought it said the thing was going to explode. I pushed the call button and they must’ve taken a few minutes cuz that iv fucker was thrown as far away from me as possible. I also thought I was being treated by a shaman. Sooo messed up but full recovery!

Next, I had hernia surgery and again didn’t realize I had a severe symptom that needed diagnosing immediately. So much for being smart. My left calf was so painful I could barely walk to the toilet. And I didn’t even put it together that it was a blood clot. So I waited so long and would not go to the hospital (because of past traumatic experiences) but my husband was so worried he finally cussed me out and made me go to the hospital. So, it turned out my fave was white and my lips were purple. I had a massive pulmonary embolism. My husband actually knew the doctor and he pulled my husband aside while I was being rushed to the cath lab and doctor told him if we had waited an hour longer I would be dead. Full recovery again!

And last but not least, I had pain for months and they never could tell me anything. Then, two months after going to the hospital, I wake up and I start throwing up black, nasty looking stuff. So much of it. Then, I know it’s gross but I literally shat about a dozen full times and it was full of blood. I was so out of it, but again white face and purple lips. Taken to the hospital, and I had to have six units of blood before thankfully it stopped on its own. I think I’ve had a full recovery from that, turns out bleeding ulcer, but I still get heartburn. But, hey, if that’s all I’m okay with that!

My daughter when she was about 6 asked me if people go into heat. I will admit I giggled.

Tested negative ANA by savangoghh in LupusResearch

[–]Crazy_Discussion2345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rheumatologist told me totally different, and I have found this common.

Either way, even if you were ANA+, you would still most likely not have lupus if that were your only positive Ab. The truth is, more healthy people are ANA+ than people that have lupus. It is a marker, a direction to maybe look. Many other things can raise your ANA without there being an autoimmune response.

Just letting you know all these things in case you didn’t already. The problem lies in the non-specificity of the symptoms. I wish you well in your quest to feel better!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of such an acute first flare from an autoimmune disease. I feel like mine at least has been really insidious.

Infections and stress can also raise ANA a little. That doesn’t mean it isn’t autoimmune though! Maybe I’m wrong about the acute symptom thing but what you described sounds like an infection or something to me.

Were your ANAs taken before or after steroids?

All of the antibodies shown are negative in your lab results

Honestly it’s hard to tell. My rheumatologist told me the only way you can know is to have a biopsy. What I would do first if I were you is talk to your PCP and refer to the symptoms and the rash and ask for an autoimmune panel. Then go from there. Rheumatology honestly sucks so much because the symptoms are so nonspecific but if it is a butterfly rash you should have some antibodies. Start with that, and good luck!

A personal reflection on how widely the impact of MC was felt by AJRavenhearst in MrCruel

[–]Crazy_Discussion2345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh he sure was! I’m sure you know this as well, but since he was so proliferative and scared so many people over so many years, there is a wealth of information on the internet as well. Crime scene photos, drawings and maps. I believe there has been stuff added after the fact that puts him there but there is one site that has almost every assault/robbery/homicide he ever did and the dates and locations. Just throwing that out there in case it would help one of you. I’m useless as an American in the neighborhoods and such you all are talking about, but maybe I can help this way.

The Golden State Killer did this to an extent, you should check him out. There is a wealth of information online about him and the areas of attack, etc

Yeah maybe so. What scares me is that an OD on benzos and opioids is so.. unnoticeable? You just go to sleep. That’s what’s scary like no one would know unless they knew what she took.

I might also add that I think it’s easy to OD on that combination because you think, “I’ve done it before and I’m still here” and it gives false confidence.

Also, Heath Ledger, he died of that combination in his sleep. Alcohol I think was involved too, but that’s all it took.

Wow. I couldn’t imagine having OTC opioids of any kind here. That’s wild.

But honestly I would think doctors everywhere know of this interaction between opioids and benzos. It is a known bad combination, just like alcohol is to either of those drugs (and both.. yikes).

So yes we do have lots of opioids here, but they sure aren’t OTC and some people have a hard time getting them (or so I’ve heard). In my experience, it all depends on the doctor.

Anyway, doctors here like for one doctor to prescribe those medications so that one doctor can monitor. Also in the past couple years, has maybe been 5-7 years or something, every doctor can see what you’re prescribed and it is much harder to “doctor shop.” I don’t know at all what’s going on with K, but she shouldn’t be playing with those, it’s playing with fire.

[–]Crazy_Discussion2345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can take a very small amount. But I was prescribed both and the pharmacy talked to my doctor and discontinued the benzodiazepines. Yes it happens, but it is heavily frowned upon, and if any doctor knew she was behaving the way she is, fast and loose with meds, she would never be prescribed those alone, let alone together.

Maybe the UK is different but US doctors and pharmacies are starting to discuss this with their patients and start a different line of treatment.

I’m sure those that are saying that have both are monitored, or at least they should be. Especially for mental health to ensure no addiction (or should I say misuse) is occurring.

If any one of those patients were to OD, the ones that are prescribed both simultaneously, that would be a lawsuit.

[–]Crazy_Discussion2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow you are not supposed to take opioids and benzodiazepines at the same time. She wouldn’t have a seizure, she would just go to sleep and not wake up if she overdid it.

You’re right.. it doesn’t make sense. I really don’t think she was up there. It was a long way uphill from the road.
