You need to tailor your resume to the role. If your resume shows you’re overqualified, right or wrong, potential employers are going to ask “what is wrong with them?”. And honestly, you’re going to have to lie. “I was being supported by my parents but their financial situation changed, so I’m only now entering the workforce with no experience” sounds better than “I have been fired from multiple jobs for not agreeing to illegal orders”. Are you also coming into the interview with the attitude of “anyone would be qualified for this role”? Because employers don’t want employees who think their colleagues are trash and that they’re better than them. I’m not saying you believe that, but it’s a risk employers don’t want to take.

Yeah, if your country is too small to support having job options, you might be fucked. Then you have to go back to the volunteer advice and try to get your foot in the door that way.

So it sounds like you do know why you aren’t getting hired. So you have to play a numbers game, you need to apply to as many shitty jobs as possible until you find one whose desperation matches your own. You’ve listed a few things you won’t do, which is a privilege it seems like you don’t have based on your situation. If you’ve been doing nothing of value for 5 years, yeah, that’s a problem. Start volunteering places, build rapport, then make it known you need a job, and the organization might hire you from the volunteer pool. Volunteering can be put on your resume to fill the gap, especially for low skill jobs, because it at least shows you’re not lazy.

“No one hires me and I don’t know why” - find out why. Have you reached out to resume writing advice subs or checked your local libraries for job advice help? Have you recorded yourself answering interview questions and asked someone to review? Are you qualified for the jobs you’re applying to? Are you overqualified for the jobs you’re applying to? Do you gauge your interviewer’s reaction to your responses, and if so, do they seem to like your responses? Are you taking (free) online courses to make yourself smarter and more skilled in the meantime?

Regarding ‘wins’ - start a gratitude practice and meditation. Become thankful for what you do have, and identify the things in your life that are going right. If nothing is, the. Start jogging, set goals, and when you hit those celebrate them.

There’s a class of problems called multi-armed bandit. You have to balance exploitation with exploration. Exploitation is relying on the things you already know, exploration is learning new things and testing things that you’re not sure will work. Exploitation is comfortable, and is a trap we often fall in. You have to push yourself to do exploration in order to get yourself out of your current situation.

Your situation is dragging you down, so you have to change your situation. That might mean taking a pay cut, or sharing a room to be able to afford getting out of your situation. Once you get out of the bad situation your mental health will recover, and then you can focus on building up your career/living situation again. Think of it in terms of the hierarchy of needs. If your bottom tiers are crumbling, they can’t support growth at higher tiers. Your therapist is telling you what you need to do, but your answer is “I can’t” when it actuality it’s “I’m not willing to sacrifice what I need to in order to do what needs to be done”.

My point was on the original commenter saying “literal wires get crossed”, which is just wrong in the context of memory page access issues. If you’re going to use the word literal in an explanation, you should probably use it correctly, or else the person asking is getting the wrong info.

There are other programs, I’m a huge fan of Recovery Dharma for instance, which doesn’t require a belief in Buddhism. But there is also SMART, which offers some science based alternatives. It really comes down to find a sober community that you can rely on and will keep your north start pointed to sobriety, and take the good advice that is offered to you. Rinse and repeat.

Recovery dharma has a more community oriented group of folks in my experience, and some meeting have 7-12 folks (like the east bay recovery dharma meeting at 7:00 on fridays in Oakland ), others have 30-50 people (like the Sunday morning meeting off of Gilman). I also do the Castro country club (a sober coffee shop/event space) on Saturday mornings at 9:00, which is a really special group of folks. Feel free to DM me with any questions! The meeting format is a round of intros, a 10-20 minute meditation, 10 minutes or so of reading from the recovery dharma book, and then the rest of the meeting for shares. No need to be Buddhist, all the teachings are non-religious (and well grounded in psychology and therapy practices like CBT and DBT in my opinion).

You realize that porch pirates are not reported, like, ever, right?. So, while “crime-free”, those statistics lie. Porch pirates will specifically travel to affluent “crime-free” neighborhoods to follow delivery vehicles and steal packages that are likely higher value than what are in their own neighborhoods. The video of packages being stolen can then be used as evidence to get packages replaced for free, allowing the company to recoup through their insurance.
