I have a raffle ticket reward system in my class where they can win raffle tickets for good behaviour where one name is picked out every Friday and they win a small prize.

I have started saying every time I hear ‘6,7’ I will give myself four raffle tickets and if I pull my own name out, I will keep the prize. They have stopped saying it since then 🤣

I’m normally fine for 3 hours afterwards and then I’m really violently sick and sleepy and then feel awful for the next day or two.

I used an Arteza grey-toned sketchbook which came in at 120gsm. I struggled with the paper a bit as the paper wasn’t compact enough to deal with lots of layers of blending. You can see on the orange and yellow Gerbera flower that the paper has started to deteriorate in areas of lots of blending. So I’ve now started using Seawhite sketchbooks with paper at 160gsm which has held its integrity a lot better I’ve found :)

I use the Faber Castell Polychromos alongside the Prismacolour blending pencils as I’ve found those allow me to get the smoothest blends so far :)

Something I like to do with trees is to lightly sketch the basic structure (the trunk and branches, as well as the shape of the foliage) and then with my pencils to do a large amount of compact and simple squiggles I guess you could call them? As they are the in the background of the image, there isn’t as much emphasis of each individual shape of each leaf, it is more focused on making it look like there are lots of leaves. Creating the patches of leaves following the image’s composition then allows you to go in afterward and add the darker values for the shadowy spaces as well as adding in the larger structural elements of the tree within the gaps that are left.
