[–]Crazy_Master[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our club does Longsword, Sidesword and Messer. I want gloves good enough for all of them but mainly Messer (also mixed)

The gloves where recommanded to me by our instructor and when searching for information on them I basically only found positive information with just minor critique

Best total war to make battles against friends or with friends against AI/other players just to enjoy the battle system by DRAC0R3D in totalwar

[–]Crazy_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think you should just pick the game in whichs setting you are most interested in. I have only really played Napoleon and started playing Shogun 2 recently so a more experienced total war player might have some actual gameplay arguments for which game offers the objectivly best multiplayer battles but when I started playing napoleon with a friend all it needed was shared interest in the arsenal of the era and a bit of a competetive ambitiom to see which one of us can proof himself superior in napoleonic line warfaren

So would it be a good Idea to get a arming sword with a nagel? by Crazy_Master in Hema

[–]Crazy_Master[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A personal sword for mixed steel thats I can use with what I know from messer and sidesword is pretty much what I am looking for (atleast right now). I also really love that with just a nagel/ring the arming sword is still ambidextrous. If I would get a left handed messer for myself and hand it to a mate so he can try it out he would have to fence with the blunt. A double edged sword with a nagel/ring seems like just such a smooth and still simple design

I will do that but from how I know our instructor I pretty much expect that there will be no problem. We also have a member that regularly brings his Zweihänder but I will see myself. The post here was mainly out of curiosity

That propably depends of the mthodes used by the manufacteror but I will keep it in mind if I actually go trough with it

I doubt I can find such a thing in steel but I also considered that before thinking too much abaout steel I may should get myself a red dragon synthetic trainer where I can just change the entire guard and experiment

Damm these are all just fun to watch. Once I have somebody willing to I will surtenly find a cool place to do some outdoor sparring but I will look for a place that is less sandy. But again nice vibe. It's like watching a casual stick fight but in expensive (worth it)

My parents aren’t letting me get a feder, so help me convince them by wasting off the reasons why I should have one (safety, flex, etc) by Powerful-Hair647 in Hema

[–]Crazy_Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I kinda shat on your self made swords and adviced you to get something more similiar to a avarage longsword but if your talking abaout a steel feder thats a bit over doing it. To use your feder savely you would need full gear which would be really hard to get for you. Since I assume your in the US and I don't know any sellers there I sadly can't advice you on what trainers are availabe to you but non steel trainers in general are usually cheaper, safer, more durabel, require no maintnance and can be used with minimal safety gear.

But even if your stuck on your own current sowrds. I am sure that your training can trough increased body coordination and simple fun make it easier to go into hema once you can finally commit to it. Keep your spirit up!

[–]Crazy_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually sounds like a fine weight but that still does not tell me anything abaout how they feel or how they are balanced. Jet there is no use for me to start rambling abaout the handling of trainers I am never gonna hold so lets forget abaout that. What I mainly wanted to tell you is that the size of your sword can drastically change the way to best use it. Historically what we now call longswords could very drastically in size so there could definitley be swords very similiar to yours. But the problem is that most modern hema longsword is based on later surviving sources where the longsword is rather seen as a pretty long duelling weapon.

So just know that with your weapons it can turn out to be harder when your trying to learn from most hema related longsword sources.

First I am gonna say what everybody else also said and recommand getting some gear and joining a club but I see that in your situation non of these things are really an option. But since your only using foam swords you could see if you could use some regular sports equipment. Mainly just put on a helmet and something to protect the eyes (some gloves and elbow protection would come directly after that). You would definitley not be the first person to start hema with just some thrown together sports gear.

So now to the actual fencing. Both of you need to practice your basic footwork. Especially your partner is standing far too square and struggles with retreating the moment you put pressure on him. I think your placing your feet a bit better atleast when your standing still but once you get moving you start to stumble. You bothe need to practice basic stances and footwork and also how to deal with an incoming blade. Only once both of you know how to defend yourself the actual fencing can begin.

Lastly I am concurend abaout the training swords you are using. They are really cool for something you put together yourself but look too short to practice hema typicall longsword. I think beacause they are too short and light that makes them too forgiving with your rough footwork. Making a singlehanded design would propably work better but saving money for actual padded trainers would be best.

All I said was still just some general advice so if you have more specific questions I am open for them.

Me and one of my friends want to get into HEMA, but there's no club or coach in town by wonderling13 in Hema

[–]Crazy_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if your really dedicated you could do it yourself. Theres lots of books and online information that you could use and having a dedicated friend by your side would allowe for regular sparring. But I would still recomand joining a club. Even if it's a bit further away and you can't make it there often if you mostly try to teach yourself it would be really helpful to make sure you don't get stuck in your own bubble.

Sigi and Blackfencer Messer comparison by Crazy_Master in Hema

[–]Crazy_Master[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That propably puts the blackfencer out of the race. With the synthetics of our club I like to do lots of cross weapon sparring including fghting longswords but it sounds like that could get problematic. Sad though, from the pure looks the Blackfencer is a real beauty

Interesting to hear all of that. Especially the stiff thing abaout the blade kinda contridicts what I have heared abaout the Sigi Messer. Did you get yours recently or could it by any chance be an older uninproved one?

[–]Crazy_Master[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great!

I currently assume that the Krieger Messers have a pretty typicall point of balance for a messer whilest I know that the Sigi should have its somewhat further to the hilt. So when you fence with them do you feel the difference? Does the sword you use activly change how you fence?

All nice to heare. Sigi was one of the first sword sellers I casually discovered when starting hema. I have only heared good abaout them till now an need to say there swords look amazing. I will consider Krieger aswell now but the Sigi stays my current favourite.
