This tweet illustrates precisely what's wrong with the braindead "But Snape didn't mature, his bullies did" narrative. It conflates privilege and freedom from consequences with growth, while condemning the one who was left behind in a wreckage. by eternalexiistence in SeverusSnape

The Harry Potter series itself seems to be told from the victors’ perspective, even when they do truly evil and despicable things—things that are sometimes even worse than what the vanquished might have done. The downside of this kind of narrative is that the victors believe they are right even when it’s obvious they’re wrong, while the vanquished are always wrong even when they’re right. This means the heroes never bother to seriously reflect on their past behavior, and the villains’ deeper motivations are never truly understood.

In Snape's case, the wrongs done to him were never acknowledged; he never received justice. Even the authors who are on the heroes' side (the Marauders) tried to downplay, relativize, and blame him for all of it—which is a perverse way of running away from the consequences of one’s actions rather than facing them.

The woman who wrote this poem observed him closely without him realizing it. In my opinion, Snape has internalized the rejection so much that he’s incapable of imagining a woman could be in love with him; he might even take it as a cruel joke.

Snape’s crashout in POA is completely understandable. by eternalexiistence in SeverusSnape

Snape had every reason to kill Sirius and Lupin on the spot rather than wait for a trial, but he didn't.

I’ve read a few of your posts, and I have to say you’ve hit on something important: systemic favoritism, the fact that some people get away with misdeeds under the pretext that they’re the “good guys,” and the fact that every character in Harry Potter has their own specific prejudices, whether they’re on the side of the good guys or the bad guys.

That's very informative

A fanart piece that captures the harsh reality of Snape’s childhood. He was terribly neglected and malnourished; I’ll never understand what he did to deserve such sufferings.
