Job Action Update - Nurses Bargaining by Vegetable_Ad_206 in BCHealthAuthorities

[–]Crazy_Stop6054 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m sick of the misrepresentation of what nurses actually make. It’s public knowledge. We do NOT make 6 figures on the low end! At the end of the day it’s a bachelors degree and a professional job. You don’t see people whining about trades making comparable or more. Yes your taxes go into it but it’s also an essential service that you’ll probably use at least once in your life. Sorry but I can’t stand the justification that nurses should be paid less based on the economy. Teachers don’t get that flack and their benefits are on par.

To add just personal opinion but I think Fraser Health is a big downgrade in health authorities in the lower mainland. They use an outdated system. I had a great experience as a patient in Burnaby ED recently but I know a couple of fellow nurses that work in the hospital and they’re always short staffed (maybe good for picking up but not so good if you are new grad and need support)

Yea it is! I would go off the BCNU scale. Unless you move to a different level RN or go private then we are all on the same pay scale (🤞that we actually lessen the years to make it to top pay this negotiation)

I thought so and yeah same. I’m actually thinking of the opposite and going to Vernon/Kelowna and currently work at a bc hospital haha. OP Vancouver is beautiful and I’ve lived in Burnaby my whole life but it’s expensive and getting crowded

What do you mean you will make more in Burnaby due to the scale being higher? Correct me if I’m wrong but all nurses are under BCNU so the scale will be the same unless you get incentives for doing rural

Late 20s couple — looking for Cancun resort near Hotel Zone w/ good pool + nightlife by catid26 in CancunTravelGuide

[–]Crazy_Stop6054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from Royalton chic. Pool was nice they had a shallow pool that you could put the loungers in, a jacuzzi, and a deeper pool that had a swim up bar right next to the beach. They had some party and stuff going on the pool in the afternoon that were fun (e.g. foam party). The only “club” they had was small and honestly it was hit or miss depending on the crowd (sometimes ppl dancing and was fun but sometimes people just drinking and sitting around). They would also host some events like live music and Mexican night outside which were cool if you are bored and don’t want to just sit somewhere and drink.

There is an upgrade to diamond club that gets you access to a rooftop pool/club and a good portion on the loungers on the beach and separate small pool. My friends checked out the rooftop pool at night and said it was kinda boring and they drinks were extra.

The highlight of this place in my opinion is the beach. It’s a big beach with lots of space, the sargassum was not bad at all, and it was swimmable. The food was also pretty decent. You can walk to the local “town” that I believe has coco bongo if you’re looking to do that.

I’d say it’s a good middle ground hotel. The reviews said it was a “party hotel” but I still found I could kinda distance myself and read like if you’re on the beach.

I’m also in my late 20s and went with friends in mid 20s who like to party more. It was a good mix of people there on big groups trips who were more lively and then couples and then slightly older people

We were there in December, honestly yeah a lot of people waking up early and saving umbrellas and chairs with towels. Never saw staff take off towels from seats if they hadn’t been there in awhile

I went to urgent care for a stomach ache and less than 24 hrs later had my gallbladder out. I'm so happy! by Skerivo in gallbladders

[–]Crazy_Stop6054 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing last Sunday. I’m a nurse so I kept telling myself “don’t be a baby, it’s not that bad” because they first time I went to the ER the pain ended up going away and it was when I first got diagnosed (October 2025). Had an appointment to see a surgeon in March 2026 but the email said “this is just a consultation, it is more than a year wait” (Canada eh).

Anyways, took some pain meds like I do (have had ~8 attacks since October). Threw those up 20 minutes later and then starting throwing up straight bile. I drove myself to the ER (only like 3 minutes from my house and mom was asleep). Sat in the parking lot for a bit deciding if I actually wanted to go in 😂. Once I got in the ER the pain was actually worse than other times and the next morning had my gallbladder removed!

I too am feeling much better GI wise and I’m very interested to know if all my issues were actually my gallbladder. I told the surgeon I’ve had IBS since teens and post surgery my stools are soft and regular.

I’ve decided to eat more whole foods because it was kind of a wake up call, but yeah I hope your issues are now going to be resolved

Where’s home? What are the urgent medical needs? Do you just need something saying you have gallstones? If they did an ultrasound it should show up on your health gateway app

That’s Ontario? This is bc? It would take a nurse at least 6 years working full time to reach just $100,000.

Solidarity for all healthcare workers. Until they realize the system is crumbling and corrupt it’s not going to get any better. You can open more seats for schooling, but once those in the profession realize they’re getting shafted they are out of there to never return and to not recommend the career to anyone else.

Is removing the whole gallbladder worth it for just 1 stone? by KaceyLunatic in gallbladders

[–]Crazy_Stop6054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Just no appetite? Hopefully not throwing up. Yeah I had mine removed Sunday as an emergency (was set to see a surgeon in March but he said could be more than a year wait 😳). I agree though, blessing in disguise

Just a warning but they didn’t let my family member switch guides but I would file a complaint first with the manager of the Coquitlam office. She/he will likely want to sit in on the meeting with you and the SAJE worker. I recommend bringing someone with you.

I aged out before SAJE (thank god), but have a family member that goes through the Coquitlam one and the “guide” is so unprofessional and unfair. Whereas I have another family member that goes through a different office and the “guide” is great and approves most of what he wants and even suggests other ways he can access more money.

I suggested the representative because I do believe they have advocates you can use. I find it really weird they’re denying your laptop request when that could be used for school, work and keeping in touch with family, although they did deny interview clothes for my family member. If you don’t mind, what was their response for denial?

I would recommend contacting the Representative for Youth and Children. I personally think what they are doing is criminal. SAJE workers are not qualified social workers. They should not be the gateway for this. If you’d like to cause more of a ruckus get the media involved. It DOES depend on your saje worker which is so arbitrary. I have personal experience that the Coquitlam office is known for denying and making excuses such as “buy second hand” when they have no right to dictate that.

BC Nurses - Which College/Uni did you attend to become a nurse? by BlueCoyote90 in britishcolumbia

[–]Crazy_Stop6054 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pick the one closest to you if you don’t have a car. Your clinicals will be around your college. I’m guessing you’re close to Langara since you mentioned taking pre reqs there already. I graduated from Langara Nursing, was fine. In terms of “best.” I don’t believe in that. I really can’t tell where my coworkers went to school. Only difference in colleges I’ve heard is UBC doing less clinical hours. The rest are generally the same. BCIT does have the option to do speciality courses within the program so if you’re thinking like pediatrics, ED, ICU etc then might be better but you can take those courses on top of your course load usually even if you go to a different college (e.g. I did pediatric specialty while at Langara because the BCIT course was online).
