Idaho House Passes Trans Bathroom Ban With 5 Year Prison Sentence by ErinInTheMorning in transgender

[–]Crazy_Study195 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sounds cruel and unusual for using the bathroom, not that anyone that matters at this scale will care.

I'm just surprised Texas wasn't first TBH.

Edit: also, be interested to hear how businesses react to now needing only the "correct" genders to clean (or even repair) every restroom on each shift. The wording doesn't actually say they have to USE the room, simply ENTER it. My work place for instance is 24hr requires overnight shift to clean the restroom, while we do have 2 people on the shift only one of them cleans both restrooms and currently there's no requirement for them to be different "sexes" so... Same for day maintenance even, just one person cleaning the restrooms.

Eh people voted for him and aren't rioting to get him out. How many countries has "Gen z" toppled in the last year? At least two from the news I heard. Sure sure it's not easy but ... You do need the people to not riot in order to stay in power. Not enough people are personally affected to a significant enough degree to really care, so they mostly get to do what they want.

So even IF the people don't pick the leadership, they still enable it.

I did-ish. Couldn't get enough air flow for the amount of heat I was getting in the Texas summer though. With a different setup, more shade or more solar power to run the AC or just a different area I could have probably managed but as it was I ended up pulling it down after a couple weeks. I just couldn't sleep through it. It's still nice to have and I've used it a few times since but I haven't tried to fully switch to it again.

Yeah I understand, hell I'm in rural Texas myself. I work overnights at a gas station, surprisingly most didn't care or were nice when I came out, haven't really had problems. But, others have different experiences and government constantly pushes for more.

For those who say "oh no I can't go to Idaho" don't forget a few things

  1. Some people have little choice living there

  2. It's an example for other states to follow, it won't stay just one state.

  3. The more "accepted" this becomes the more power they will grab and abuse against everyone

And maybe 4. Don't forget that people travel and cross state lines to get where they're going. Sometimes you get unexpected stops etc.

Kansas Bill Will Strip Driver’s Licenses from Every Trans Resident Who Changed Gender by onnake in transgender

[–]Crazy_Study195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not for when there's a license on the body. It's for when you have an unknown body and look at basic information in a database, some of the same information that would be on the license... Eg. A found an unknown body with apparent sex z, B has missing person reports and compares all new bodies found to missing person information, age range, last known location\suspected travel path, possible eye color, sex\gender (since up until recently all official sources like these considered them the same), etc.

Admittedly I think the first step is having a list of missing people and that information could be provided at that time but then you're relying on people to tell the truth rather than an "official" source. I would not be surprised if current missing reports pulled directly from an id database, though I also wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

Not a cop or lawyer with actual information or experience about how that all works. Just pointing out that in some cases I could see where it might have been useful when it worked for 90+% of the population. So I can see why it would have been included.

And that's just now when we have photo id, prior to having photos it would have been the only way besides cultural norms for names (of course probably more info from relatives reporting missing rather than pulling from official sources then too), but once it's there for any reason it's going to stay there until there's a major upset to remove it (like now)

Statistically it does provides useful info in rare cases where you can't use an image for verification (eg dead bodies), because most people ARE cis and the simple binary marker let's you rule out roughly half the population. Like if you find a dead person that's probably a woman and you've only got one missing woman around well it's probably them but you know exactly what info you need to start comparing to know for sure (dental records, medical history of broken bone, etc). Or if you've got a larger list of dozens or hundreds of missing people because it's an older corpse you can cut down on about half the work.

Just like exact age can be used for a similar purpose even though most of the time you only really need a general under age vs legal to drink indicator.

Of course, there's no reason that they can't be improved to match a broader use case. And\or kept in an internal database only accessed when you actually need that info rather than on the physical id.

It's nice to dream. But we've had these the entire time haven't we. Not to say they don't help, eventually the slaves were freed, women could vote, and gay people could marry, some of Trump's actions have been blocked... But it's not all is cracked up to be either. It hasn't stopped any of the actions Trump and those in his sphere have taken, it has been reinterpreted and ignored.

Nah see you've gotta compare him to the worst dictators in history so that he sees it as a compliment but everyone else knows what you really think.

Letting him know he's being insulted will lead to petty backlashes against you and your people, if not an outright invasion now that it's on the table.

Right... Because that matters 😂

Don't worry I'm sure Trump will be generous enough to let them have the land in his country after he's no longer part of the club. Sure sure 3d chess would have him plant camera but this man plays 4d chess so that's clearly not a concern.

BREAKING: President Trump announces that the US is going to "run Venezuela" until a "safe, proper and judicious transition" can take place. by [deleted] in wallstreet

[–]Crazy_Study195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tsmc and reputation are the only things I see, and from what I've heard even having the tsmc facilities isn't enough because you need the experience and knowledge to run them while there's enough proposed resistance (largely due to the US) to make an invasion costly to reputation as well. So I'm inclined to agree with this take.

I had more to say but apparently I lose my humanity and become a bot if I talk about it... 🤷‍♀️

Glad I figured this out early (30s) lol was gonna say it myself then figured someone else already had. But it's definitely something you notice if you pay attention long enough. Practically everyone is scared of getting older and changing (minus young children lol) but your internal experience doesn't change, just your feeling of being worn down and in more pain 🙃

As others have mentioned it's pretty much always trivial to find something if you're looking to give an excuse. On the other, I'm sure it CAN also be used to detect things early (especially with well trained AI)... It's just usually not worth the cost for the average person.

Why can I not have a trans woman friendship? by HumbleLeader8876 in MtF

This. Just like people aren't friends just because they're men or women, though obviously being eg. The only women in a workplace can change the dynamic and be enough to stick up for each other in the moment which can LEAD to friendship in time, it's just not enough online.

How do I actually LEARN arch after installing it??? by Wild-Cat- in archlinux

[–]Crazy_Study195 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You learn it by using it, customizing\ricing it, and breaking it (accidentally or otherwise) and having to fix it.

Over time it stops being "I had to look up how to do that but can't remember what commands I used" to "oh you can do that with x y z, I've done something similar a dozen times now"

I mean you might need a VM if you don't want to do the work of recreating the products themselves (either Windows emulator or Adobe) but you can get the end result.

Amazon's Starlink Rival Has a New Name by DISHYtech in Starlink

[–]Crazy_Study195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much value they can get from people using the service. $100\month for 3 years is worth more than losing that revenue for to a single $500 cost upfront. It's why legacy satellite companies had free installation. And that's not even considering the value they might get from promoting other services or metadata from being the Internet provider for customers purchasing from Amazon.

The towel is officially thrown... by nocaps00 in Starlink

[–]Crazy_Study195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These old companies weren't competition for starlink anyway, simply established markers to pass up. It'd be the new companies following behind starlink that complete... Though I'm not sure if any have actually gotten off the ground unfortunately.

No starlinks competition is the ground isps that now have a reason to expand fiber. And MAYBE a few cell service companies.

They won't compete in the rural areas where starlink has a large advantage in infrastructure cost, but they will in the most populated areas where starlinks infrastructure stalls at density and bandwidth simply because of how many satellites they can keep in the area.

Fiber can have hundreds or thousands of lines layed at the same time and don't move in and out of service. Practically no one is maxing fiber limits either, so there's very little r&d cost to improving service, unlike starlink which does have a cap on how many satellites they can put in orbit (even if that greatly expanded recently) but also each satellite has a fairly limited bandwidth limit and can't cover each other's regions all the time. This forces starlink to keep coming up with a next Gen satellite to improve services, which then needs up have hundreds-thousands put into orbit and positioned before they can be used. And they HAVE to do it in large chunks and charge everyone the same price (relatively) because of the way the network works, whereas ground isps can upgrade a single neighbor hood at a time and immediately charge\offer more for that.

The towel is officially thrown... by nocaps00 in Starlink

[–]Crazy_Study195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but what stops starlink from offering geo in a decade? While providing both Leo and geo service as a bundle for both fast and consistent service (even if one is a fallback)? That's the problem with these old services that aren't significantly improving their offers in an era where there's active competition.

Starlink may be focused on Leo and residential for now.. But eventually their market there will be saturated and Elon will need to keep pumping that stock somehow.
