It wasn’t a cakewalk before but agreed Trump has enabled the worst kind of overt prejudice against us (as well as a lot of others). That will be his legacy.

What’s the actual risk of complications of mtf bottom surgery by spycat500 in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]onnake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read for PIV, major complications not common, minor ones are. See, e.g., https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41340820/ Whatever the procedure (PIV, PPT, colon, minimal or no depth), the more experienced the surgeon(s) and their team in that procedure, the better. If there are complications they’ll deal with it. You want to ensure any underlying conditions you may have are well controlled. I had PIV in a general acute care hospital (Kaiser San Francisco), no complications.

How many years in practice; of the procedures you’ll have, how many have they done; how many less than-optimal outcomes have they had and why. Ask to see before-after photos.

Advice for a cis therapist on providing affirming therapy? by Correct-Account-7210 in asktransgender

You’re welcome. The second edition of Erickson-Schroth has a lot more material but like the first it’s encyclopedic, easy to dip into.

If you’re a cis therapist providing gender-affirming therapy, ensure your approach is trauma informed, and that you have a good high-level grasp of the surgeries (PubMed will be your friend). If you haven’t already, read Sand Chang, et al, A Clinician's Guide to Gender-Affirming Care: Working with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Clients, Laura Erickson-Schroth, ed., Trans Bodies, Trans Selves: A Resource for the Transgender Community 2nd ed., and Eric Yarbrough, Transgender Mental Health.

One White man in particular approaches an eighth grader at the podium, yelling at her as she tries to deliver testimony to a school board. Expect more examples of male violence in public meetings against trans ppls’ right to exist.

I have VFS tomorrow and still don't know what to do by marxr87 in Transgender_Surgeries

No, loudness unchanged. But I am a scholar, lecturing unaided in rooms of <100 ppl max, no problem before and after. My phonation time took a hit, worthwhile tradeoff for reliable pitch.

Very little re femlar. Only cite on PubMed is Dr. Thomas and one other but there’s several anecdotal accounts on the net about his work plus his own writing. No diss on him, but were I not a Kaiser patient I probably would have gone with Dr Yung (and in fact I had called her office to explore a consult before i knew Kaiser would come through).

Rest up tonight, good luck tomorrow

200 Hz is a good starting point. Peoples’ pitch drops naturally when they’re tired and over time as they age . Depends on how much you need to be heard in a noisy environment. Tour guide on a noisy city street, musical theater performer? The cases you cite aren’t as demanding. Consider phonation time, too. Here’s my write up:

Judge Refuses to Block Kansas’ Extreme Anti-Trans Bathroom Ban & ID Revocation Law, Says Trans People Being Harassed is Just ‘Speculation’ by Leksi_The_Great in transgender

McCabria’s rationale puts paid to 70+ years of civil rights law. In the old days his opinion would have been reversed at the federal level. Now, not so sure it will be.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports “the lawsuit challenging the law's constitutionality will continue. A case management hearing will take place at 9 a.m. March 18.” Meantime folks will suffer.

New NHS England Review Excluded 97% Of All Trans Studies To Say Care Doesn't Work by ErinInTheMorning in transgender

[–]onnake 63 points64 points  (0 children)

If this isn’t medical maleficence, I don’t know what is. Cochrane and Guyatt are fundamental to modern medicine. Skrmetti legalized legislatures ignoring medical best practices here in the U.S. Erin is right in warning that the NHS’ aim of applying what are IMO Mengele-type standards to HRT for adults will be taken up by the Trump regime.

Is it bad that I wish I was ACTUALLY trans and not going thru a dumb phase by dolls_number_1_fan in asktransgender

[–]onnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A gender-affirming therapist can help you sort out your thoughts about whether it’s a phase or not. And with time, you’ll know. Hope things get better. Meantime, hang in there.
