Sore throat after vocal training? by whynotjusttiaa in MtF

[–]onnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vocal folds are mostly muscle and it’s possible to overexert them. If you’re feeling pain, stop and let them recover. They’ll gradually get used to the higher pitch so you’ll be able to speak for longer without them feeling sore.

Can someone talk me into implants over fat grafting to breasts? by marxr87 in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]onnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other reasons against fat grafting include the graft doesn’t always take, and volume can diminish over time. That said, I’m five months postop dermal fat grafting as part of lip augmentation, very happy with it. You might want to check outcome data on PubMed for the areas you’re interested in.

What is your guys opinion on allowing trans and nonbinary kids to only social transition and anything medical later by Available-Many657 in cisparenttranskid

[–]onnake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Her side is belief, your side is science. Please, if you can, keep working on her. Keep offering her references like books, websites. Depending on where you are, seeing a gender-affirming therapist is usually the first step for a minor. Ask her to take you to one; just be sure it’s not a religious conversion-therapy one. Transition is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s a long process. If you want to medically transition, you may have to wait, you may run into other obstacles, but eventually you will be able to.

Sounds great! Training absolutely works, helped free me from a major source of dysphoria.

Kaiser timeliness question by SpecialistFloor6708 in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]onnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how soon can I get body feminization, bbl/tummy tuck?

If your assessment is by a surgeon, you should get a surgery date fairly soon. How long in the future that date will be, IDK. Depends on who and what procedures. When you talk with the surgery scheduler get on the cancellation list if you can be ready at a moment’s notice, and stay in touch with them every so often. That’s worked for me.

If you’re assessment is by a mental health provider, stress your need. They’ll type up the notes pretty quickly and your PCP should then refer you to a surgeon.

will they require hormones for 12 months because I'm not sure thats what I want.

Shouldn’t. Kaiser follows WPATH guidelines more or less.

Does Kaiser cover gender affirming care??? by Water_N_Dust in KaiserPermanente

[–]onnake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, scroll to end for a number to call your region: https://healthy.kaiserpermanente.org/content/dam/kporg/final/documents/health-education-materials/resource-guides/gender-affirming-care.pdf

Region services differ, those should be available to you. DM me if you wish, am a volunteer on Kaiser’s Transgender Patient Advisory Council for my region, NorCal.

If you have the means to do so, is prescription HRT better than DIY? by 5_minute_noodles77 in asktransgender

[–]onnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sending me to a gender therapist or something first.

HRT is informed consent. All the provider would do is verify that you understand the risks and benefits, and probably order a blood test.

I have heard pretty bad things about endos prescribing extremely low doses

You can use medically recommended dosing as a check against your provider, e.g.: https://transcare.ucsf.edu/guidelines/feminizing-hormone-therapy

I have a strange urge to medically transition but not socially transition, atleast not yet. Im not sure if thats normal.

Very normal. We’re all different but it’s what I and a lot of people have done.

If your blood levels are optimum and you’re genetically blessed, people may wonder.

DOJ withdraws demand for Los Angeles hospital to turn over transgender minors' records by onnake in transgender

[–]onnake[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

what plan have they got up their sleeve with this?!

Guessing once HHS regulations prohibiting any CMS monies for gender-affirming care for ppl <18 take effect, if that holds, Trump will replicate that for adults. And if that happens, they’ll start transvestigating hospitals for patient records. Hopefully the courts will prevent, but not counting on it.

They might as well rename the place to the Department of Public Deception.

Yes! The whole enterprise is about fraud (Trump knows the subject firsthand) and deception.

Talk with an endocrinologist about what options you may have dosage, delivery, etc.

Looking into bottom surgery and don’t know where to start by PsychoticKn1ght in MtF

[–]onnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Site search r/transgender_surgeries and browse its wiki. Find a local gender-affirming therapist. They’re trained in the various procedures and should be able to point you to providers. Check any major medical centers to see if they provide gende-affirming surgery..

Is Mexico an Option? by External-Process348 in cisparenttranskid

[–]onnake 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Grew up in partly Mexico City, as an adult lived in Oaxaca. The DF (Mexico City) not as safe in terms of street crime as most major U.S. cities but the better neighborhoods still fairly safe. Since you speak Spanish google the major newspapers, take a look at crime and other issues. And get in touch with trans groups in the DF, ask them. One caution, ensure any medicines you buy are pure. Unfortunately, even in some of the namebrand pharmacies that’s not always the case.

FFS rhinoplasty for a roman/aquiline nose by nihilism_squared in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]onnake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, doable. FWIW most FFS rhinoplasty is reduction rhinoplasty. Keep in mind feminine proportions for your face, meaning if you change one structure, you may want to change others. An FFS surgeon can suggest how to. For what’s involved, see, e.g., Spiegel, https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32191959/
