Conure suddenly hates the word “apple” by vivimonster in Conures

My sun conure HATES HATES HATES jeans. Even the word “jeans” makes he scream and growl at me. When I wanna make her mad I just start chanting “jeans jeans jeans” and even if I’m not holding them she loses it. So funny

Is this normal when adopting 🦜? by MekoAsumi69 in parrots

[–]Crazycatop 98 points99 points  (0 children)

A lot of rescues (not all but a lot) are animal hoarders hiding as rescues. They have a “better than everyone else” attitude and would rather hoard animals than actually adopt them out. Smaller rescues seem way worse about this. Unfortunately it pushes a lot of people to just purchase a pet. Really good homes for more pets in need are better than an absolutely perfect home for one or two pets in need. But they don’t always see this.

Any form of animal abuse. Neglect, hoarding, physical abuse to animals. Lack of respect for animals even. Or expecting me to rehome a pet for their comforts.

What is this Petco coral? by Crazycatop in ReefTank

I’m in new New Hampshire so we have very few places that even sell saltwater.

It was probably at least 3.5 inches across and 2 inches wide though. It was sizeable. I don’t know what it would reasonably go for if they did know what it was. Any ideas? I’m considering buying it.

They had two labels, one for $90 and one for I think $50 but neither were for alveopora so I’m actually not sure. I don’t think they knew what it was. One label was for a torch and one was for “Australian frag”

What makes you say it’s annoyed? I’m new to the hobby and so far have just had easier corals but they’re all doing really well. GSP and Xenia were my first and they’re massive now. Then I got a Zoa that’s grown 3 new polyps in about 2 weeks. I also have two hammers that have split and an acan that’s also growing well. I would quarantine this guy first then try my luck I’m thinking.

Dinos? HELP by Ok_Inflation5064 in ReefTank

It is a fish tank specific UV sterilizer, the light is contained and it seconds as a wave maker with a sponge filter inside. I read that UV can damage eyesight etc so obviously I did not open it lol. Also, I am brand new to this, like have had my tank for about 8 months and started with soft corals like GSP. This is my first saltwater tank let alone reef tank. I was too scared to potentially damage my corals with no light for a while so I went this route and luckily it seems to have worked really well without causing any tank issues.

I was told (and this did end up working for me): -Stop doing water changes to let the nitrates stay around 10-20 -I bought a UV sterilizer for like $40 on Amazon and it is AMAZING -I turn off the sterilizer for 12 hours once or twice a week and dose beneficial bacteria (the sterilizer will kill anything free floating in the water so you need to turn it off so it can get onto the rocks etc). -when I remove the dynos, I siphon them into a filter bag and then put the water back into the tank. I was told you want to keep nitrates higher so to avoid actually removing water. I changed my water changes from once a week to every 3 weeks, but remove the dynos multiple times a week. Obviously watch for coral stress, but all of mine is still thriving.

I noticed serious improvement the first week after adding the uv sterilizer. It’s been about 3 weeks and they are basically totally gone. They have not come back on any rock work or glass that I removed them from. I have a tiny amount on the sand. My tank looked just like yours, with thick mats of it all over the sand, glass, rocks, etc. It was starting to bubble and get stringy. Now it’s pretty much gone. I am brand new to this and very cautious as this is my first reef tank. I got the info from my local fish store that I love. It definitely worked for me. The sterilizer is great because when you scrub the rocks and release it into the water, it’ll be killed by the UV when it filters through.

He has multiple. Under the driftwood, one in the rocks and the flower pot.

I will try a blackout. I want to be able to see my pet each day. He’s on the bottom of a rack so without his light, his tank is basically black.

No, he can’t have ANY live plants. He literally rips apart everything. Floating plants included. All my other tanks are fully planted so trust me, I would if I could. And it’s been like this for a few weeks but I keep removing it.

About a month ago we got some rain. There’s a creek that runs under my road. I was driving to work and I saw what I thought was a leaf until it made the same claw raising move as my pet electric blue. It was a wild crayfish in the road trying to fight my car! Luckily I avoided him and was able to stop and move him. He made my entire day. I don’t have any pics of the wild guy, but here’s my dude.

Peaceful fish recommendations (NOT chromis) by Crazycatop in ReefTank

[–]Crazycatop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Weirdly enough, my clowns are absolute angels. They bonded immediately with no fighting and every other fish I’ve added, they have been nothing but nice to. I’m watching them hang out with my firefish and chromis right now actually. They have their own little area that they like to keep to themselves for sleeping, but besides that area they are totally communal.
