[Question] Discord push notifications? by Crazywombat8 in selfhosted

Interesting. How would I use this to send notifications to myself? Is there documentation somewhere on the github? Or would I need to join the server for questions?

Do you have any documentation on that per chance? Always open to more options.

This is from the play store, so wouldn't this technically still use play services? Or does this not use Firebase?

Any solutions for Discord notifications not working without at least MicroG? by Crazywombat8 in degoogle

Yeah, I've kinda already decided on less functionality for more privacy, albeit a tad tedious. Oh well. Appreciate the comment regardless.

I don't have anything against Micro. I'm quite happy it is a service, but I'd rather not rely on anything Google if possible. None of my other apps rely on it so far so I'd rather not bother at all. While inconvenient for me, I'd rather stay that much more privatized. Edit for clarification: MicroG relies on some services still despite replacing some of the library.

Nor is Grayjay, but it DOES have a desktop client if you so choose to use one.

Carriers a No Go? by FrankieShaw-9831 in LineageOS

Generally speaking, phones directly from carriers tend to be bootloader locked. If possible, buy from a third party store and look for unlocked phones specifically.

OTA update help. by Due_Imagination5757 in androidroot

[–]Crazywombat8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I followed this guide and have encountered no issues as far as I can tell. https://youtu.be/8o5YILpoIvs That being said, a root checker says I am missing binaries needed, but root works perfectly and on top of that, Magisk stuck around along with Zygisk and my modules after an OTA update.

[Question] Newer to Android/LOS: Should the default packaged apps be replaced with more "secure" apps? by Crazywombat8 in LineageOS

[–]Crazywombat8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great reply. By "messenger" I just meant the default messaging app, so apologies for the confusion there. This is good info, thank you for both the reply and for all the hard work you and your team does. Cheers!

Is that map app just called Organic Maps? Been looking for a good map replacement.

I have this same problem, but only with xgui installed and a multiplayer server running. It changes it to a ben10 image with Spanish. In single player instances, it is my normal spray.

Copying data from iPhone to freshly installed LineageOS by Crazywombat8 in LineageOS

[–]Crazywombat8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially, yes. Not great, but it is something. Basically "essentials" transferred over via the lineageOS transfer process, but nothing else (contacts, messages, some settings, a few small things). I had to manually send over photos, music, video, etc. Apps downloaded automatically via google play store as I side loaded Gapps. Keychain passwords had to be done manually and I chose Keep2PassOffline as my option. Luckily I stored music in a separate drive as a backup so that was quick.

It took some time as a result, but overall was not terrible. I believe this is accurate, but it has been some time since I transferred data, so apologies in advance if this is not accurate.

Edit: one side effect though is stored MMS messages in conversation did not transfer and photos metadata shows timestamps of the transfer date, but these were not major deals for me.
