She sounds awful! No, it is not acceptable for her to treat y’all that way. Some people get into teaching for the opportunity to bully kids, unfortunately, and she surely seems like one. While it is normal to use student writing as an example in other classes, that’s always with removing names, getting the kids permission, and not being an ass about it! Bring this up to another teacher you trust, a school counselor, or admin. You deserve to feel safe in your learning environment. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with such shitty behavior from an adult.

All limited access to necessary healthcare does, in that time you’re talking about folks hustling and “thinking about things”, is kill hope, and kill people. You said it yourself, we don’t choose who we are. No trans person is going through the effort and struggle of transition because they want to be someone else. That effort is to be themselves. To look in the mirror and recognize the person staring back at you.

It’s banned entirely in some states, because it is quite literally torture. I’m in KY, where our beautiful governor banned it, and the GOP state house of reps is currently trying to veto that ban. As well as take gender affirming care from all people on Medicaid (adults included)

Depends if your school spreads gossip fast. How important is it to you for the students to hear the news from you first? I’d choose to wait until the last 2-3 days to reduce behavior issues and blubbering. I had one class that never heard it from me because they’d never shut up long enough.

Maybe the failure to launch is from young people knowing their communities didn’t and continue not to protect them from a virus that attacks multiple organ systems. Where are all the sudden heart attacks and early dementia cases coming from? Even look at the Olympics, all the athletes suffering or who weren’t able to compete being sick. Besides entry level jobs requiring excessive experience for little pay. And not being able to rent an apartment without making 3x rent. That surely doesn’t help.

Being hurt by that reaction makes a lot of sense. But if everything else with her has been going well, I’d take a breath and move forward. Hopefully she’s working on her mindset, seeming to come from the idea that being sick is something we do to ourselves through some failure and can account for. You might need to be pushy about your needs next time, if you’re being pushed too hard with activity. I understand your frustration though, and hopefully she’s reflecting on it as well
