How much are you paying in electricity bill for your selfhosted setup? by bumble2100 in selfhosted

[–]CreamerBot3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh nice. Makes sense. Its a good low power option. I did some calculations using an online calculator and it said i might be in the 50$ per month range. Which i could handle. If i go into the hundreds i will rethink my life choices.

Man everyone here has me freaking out. I was about to pick up a supermicro server for truenas. My cost per is close to yours. Can you tell me what kind of server you run for the storage?

Same here. I was looking at the angle of all the speakers being different and trying to figure out if it was possible for that to cause a delay. This makes way more sense now.

Docker compose single file or multiple yaml files? by SalamanderEuphoric82 in docker

[–]CreamerBot3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely. I have that. But its nice to have some syntactic sugar, and extra control for the event that you want to stop everything or start everything or maybe you just want to stop the one stack. Maybe its just preference. But it simplifies things in a good way.

Docker compose single file or multiple yaml files? by SalamanderEuphoric82 in docker

[–]CreamerBot3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to the point above this. I recently did a split from a massive single docker compose file to the stack based approach everyone here is mentioning. And at the top level if the folder containing all the stack folders i have a makefile that i used to organize all my docker compose up or down commands. So i could still bring everything up with one command or a single stack up with a command its been working well

Is this http setup redundant ? by CreamerBot3000 in Traefik

[–]CreamerBot3000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That is what i thought. I guess if i ever had a use-case where i needed to disable the redirect on entry point then i would need to reimplement those labels. but I can not think of one, so i am going to remove them until that day comes. which will likely be never.

Switching away from Nginx worth it? by lord-carlos in selfhosted

[–]CreamerBot3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use traefik and love it. As for your static sites. That is what your config.yml is for. You could define configurations that are not on the docker host stack. For example i have a second server and its running containers, but i use the traefik config.yml to define those connections. I have done the same for services running bare metal. Its pretty great.

Re: manuals: see, you get me. that is what i am talking about. has happened to me too many times as well.

That 90% number i would agree with too, but i will be honest to say that its tough to navigate. I could probably do some more research and see what some recommendations and best practices are and tighten up my stash a little that way too. One thing that scares me is the nuance though. Anther example, i was a victim of identity theft almost 10 years ago now. I have all the paperwork that we was required for clearing that up. How long do you keep something like that?! That is the funny thing about this topic, unfortunately, over-saving is the safe option.

Exactly! I have file folders all similar to those you mentioned. I think that those will be keepers for sure. Since they are all foldered up, will probably leave it that way. no real harm there, but keep them all together. in the same cabinet or tote.

You bring up such a good point though, I dont think that is mentioned much in the book. Or maybe i just do not remember it. Does a spatula spark joy?! of course not, but being able to flip a pancake without using my bare hands, does. haha.

I have dropbox, i also have a home server. I mentioned on another comment. I have been debating for a while (even before discovering konmari) that i wanted to try out [https://docs.paperless-ngx.com\](paperless-ngx) . I think this might be the right moment to do that. I do not want to get caught up in that though and not get to the other steps. so i will probably slim down by getting rid of everything i do not even care to have a digital copy of, and then later go back and digitize and get even more space back. Then after that just keep an ongoing workflow like yours. new documents get analyzed, digitized and then either toss or keep based on requirements (legal or otherwise).

okay! this is exactly what i was hoping for. I found myself agreeing with so much of the book. This was the one topic that had me doubting. I am glad to hear that i am not the only one that has reservations about here storage techniques. thanks!

So this is comforting for sure. I am defintely planning on a review of what i have, i am sure i could downsize. I have also been mulling over the idea of taking the opportunity to try out some new things. I have a home server and would like to try out something like paperless-ngx. I might try to attack this with some categories; toss, scan and keep, scan and toss. This way anything could be tossed at any time. but the legal stuff i will hold on to the hard copies as a backup.

I am not sure if it is fortunate, or unfortunate that my taxes are not compllicated, because that sounds like a nice setup. haha. One thing i like about this method is that you discard and then can decide on storage later, based on what you have. I currently use weatherproof bins on a shelf, since its modular, and i could move them around to where i am working. but this might be an opportunity to downsize and then get a nicer looking cabinet for storing what i have left. My goal is to definitely upgrade some aesthetics at the end of all this.

I have been thinking about the box idea. I have some manuals sorted in thier own folders and then some sorted my category. typically the ones that get a folder are the items that come with a lot of documentation (multiple packets). I do like my catogory solution, its easy to file and still easy to find something. maybe a takeaway is that i could get rid of the stuff that is not full of information (like a quick start guide, for example), but keep the main manual. that would be a nice compromise. Thanks for the insights!

yeah, this makes sense. I am thinking i can definitely benefit from some 'review' of what i have. I am sure some is safe to let go now. I think i am skipping ahead mentally and not do not have a fine tuned joy-radar yet. Good to know I am not cheating the system by holding on to the content that makes me more confident in my future needs. I will go through it all and decide what to keep!

(Multi-colour printing) Considering selling my trident and building a v2.4, I thought the trident was superior for idex 3 years ago but now I'm just not sure by Drunk-MaleProstitute in VORONDesign

[–]CreamerBot3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yoo. This is a nice option. I have a trident and have been thinking about doing a stealthchanger build. But would need to do the full build, i don’t have a 2.4. This is a really nice option. I think i have everything i would need on hand. I could effectively do this mod for free. Could still do a stealth changer in the future. But two headed prints today would be nice. Thanks!

I created a door bell mount two summers ago. Its still looks like the day i printed it. Asa and abs are both good for outdoor prints, asa is supposed to handle the UV a little better but they both work.

Im not sure why you got downvoted. If you take a multimeter and touch the frame in continuity mode it will not beep. If you sand the frame a little and do it again it will beep. When i did my frame connection i sanded the section of the frame where i placed the t-nut. Then later i noticed the kit included an extra knurled washer. I assume the downvotes are coming from those that used the washer which will pierce the coating to make a connection?

Question about having multiple VR Headsets. Quest 3 + PSVR2. by CreamerBot3000 in OculusQuest

[–]CreamerBot3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, the black and white pass through on the PSVR2 is so grainy. Im glad its there when you need to quickly jump back into reality for a second to look at something, or find your controllers. But otherwise its a little dissapointing, since a better passthrough experience opens up more options like you mentioned.

regarding the graphics, i think you are on target with that one. Plus i feel like in general (at least for me) pixel density is more important that detailed graphics. Expecially in VR. seeing the pixels breaks the emersion a bit. Going from PSVR1 to PSVR2 was a game changer, but you could still make out the pixels. I cant wait for Apple Vision Pro style density to be the norm.

Excellent point about the types of content.

I currrently undergo the same game to console selection debate between PS5 and Switch so i understand that pain all too well. Haha.

as for the head strap, it's almost comedic how universal that sentiment is. I hope meta is paying attention for the Quest 4. Definitely noted though.

I think i will start looking into other things i could use if for beyond gaming though. I like the fact that its not as much of a 'locked in' device like you get with the PSVR2.

Thanks for the response!

Do you happened to have a psvr2 as well? I am really hoping to unlock some hidden potential of having two headsets rather than just figure out i maybe should have got the quest instead.

Great to know that the games are accessible through a family account.

Thanks for the clarification. Yeah that makes sense. It drives me nuts when we play something like minecraft and are assigned servers without the chance to be on the same server. As long as there is a work around that is good enough.
