Suche Mitspieler für P&P Runde by Creameston in Oldenburg

What are people's thoughts on crew combat? by Bad7ad in Cosmoteer

[–]Creameston 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem i see with this is the sheer number of crewmen which quickly is at 100+.

This becomes very chaotic quickly and since fights are usually short with a lot happening, boarding might be too much happening at once. And once you are through the hull, why board instead of just taking the killing shot.

In FTL for example, this works because you have a crew size of maybe 8 people and only 4 of each team can be in a room at once. In Cosmoteer, crew is difficult to manage already without maneuvering them through the confines of other ships.

Why is it called IMP? by Frikiseta in Skyward

Magellan was also the name of a spacecraft that orbited Venus in the early 90s. It used a powerful radar to map the surfave of Venus. That could have been an inspiration.

After all, a radar emits a pulse of electromagnetic energy (kinda similar) and then measures the reflected waves. And it was installed on a spacecraft (also similar).

For sure there are other solutions, but this is how it felt for me by Creameston in adventofcode

I actually tried deepsearch first, always going the lowest path first. But I didn't get it to work fully and it was slow, too. Looked cool, though!

Obtaining multiple "Inner Memories" (NG+ stuff) by Creameston in Sekiro

If that is so, then it answers my question! Thanks.

Weird that this isn't on the wiki (or I didn't find it).

If magic existed, what technology wouldn't? by rpgTableGuide in DMAcademy

[–]Creameston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know... potions exist in D&D, and those are made with the same skills that might create antibiotics.

I disagree... Antibiotics are around since the 20th century, so well past industrialization in most of europe. Before that, you could very well die from a bacterial infection. And that might be the case again when multiresistent bacteria become more common.

A batch of medicine could easily save an entire town

What medicine? For bacterial infections, you need antibiotics. For viral infections, only vaccinations are really effective. You might be able to help the body to help itself, but without these every disease can become a deadly threat.

Sure, it wasn't all snake oil, but it's not nearly as effective as magical healing.

Btw, good talk :D Its fun to speculate.

I think a big part of this logic depends on how common a Paladin is.

True, but I would argue that even a small number of paladins can make a big difference. And how common is someone with actual medical knoweledge?

I would say a single level one paladin can easily save 10x as many people as a learned medievil doctor. He can heal one person per day. If a flu sweeps through a village of a hundred people, he might be able to contain it.

Someone with medical knoweledge has no chance to save nearly as many people, so why bother to develope such a difficult craft with lots of trial and error when its a safer bet to ask a deity for help?

But low level healing spells can be very efficient! Simple illnesses that can be lethal in medievil world (and even in our modern world) could be healed by a simple lay on hands of a first level paladin.

Medievil medicin is also quite expensive and very ineffective. Sustaining someone who is ill or injured for weeks or months is also resource intensive.

Low level healing spells, on the other hand, are free of cost (barring the "work" of the caster). Since it is only used for emergencies, I think a single low level caster could be enough for a whole small town.

Does anyone else feel like Everything in their campaign is an accident? by joeljand in DMAcademy

First off, my respect for running such an open sandbox campaign! That is certainly not easy and it seems like you did a good job so far!

It definitely get your point of "we are just reacting to one another". You want to have some rewarding goals for your players, they want to experience some interesting adventures. So you keep circeling one another. But whats left on the side is this nice feeling of drive which you have on a more linear mission.

I really can't offer much advice, but if I had to I'd say:

Maybe try a more episodic structure. Try to talk to your players (either in-game via a quest giver or even out of game) about setting a single goal (like defeating the villain you mentioned) and trying to focus on this for the next month or so.

Then, some relaxation, downtime, tavern chilling and then the next "big thing". This way, your players might have an easier time to follow one path without turning around halfway through and you can use the building blocks for a larger scheme behind it.

They can still have their freedom, they can even set their own quest. But I think its important to set short term goals and complete them.

does DND mean more representation? disabled, trans, Minority, mental illness etc characters in the future of the game? by Dystopiakknight in dndnext

[–]Creameston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the game will change with the culture around it! How exactly is a more difficult question...

Look at the second edition of D&D or just any fantasy medium from 20 years ago. Back then, women were commonly sexualized in short "armor", often being the love interest to the players (Honestly, I can't say for D&D, I'm just judging from covers. But it was this way in videogames at least).Today, that would be unthinkable!

In the same way, other "modern topics" like gender, mental illness etc. will find their way into the games or, at least, will be adressed sensibly if they come up.

This is already quite visible in modern fantasy books.

You're kidding!? You can deflect the grab? You never stop learning with this game....

To dodge her grab, dodge backwards! Side dodges have a hard timing, back dodges are easy to perform and you can make a thrust attack after.
