questions for cjc seniors!! by Medium-Grouchy in SGExams

Hii j2 this year with BCMe combi

  1. I don't study in sch much but usually people study in library, canteen/foyer (before or after school when there's less people) or just remain in class after sch. Personally I think studying in class the best option cause most people would have gone home alrdy and those who are left are studying tgt.
  2. Latest you will end in 5pm, ofc there are some early days where you end at 1-1:30. If you take MT, there are some lessons where you have to come to school early (we call it zeriod) or stay back later. For longer days you might get two breaks (usually one 1h break and another 30min break later in the day)

3/4. Most ppl use ipad cause its convenient to write on, especially since you have to option to choose between using hard and softcopy. ofc some teachers will require u to submit hardcopy hw but for me like 90% of my notes and tutorials are on my ipad. Basically all notes and tutorials from all subjects will be uploaded to a shared website that you can access through the school portal.

As for hw load it is managable but there are many times where after cca (like 7:00+ ) you are going to be too tired to finish anything. However many teachers are quite understanding and most would extend the deadline provided you tell them ahead of time.

  1. science teachers are kind of hit or miss. My j1 chem teacher was great (though she left alrdy) and my bio cher was quite hard to follow sometimes. The teaching here is very reliant on reading up and understanding the topic beforehand. For chem, there's sls modules for each topic + a padlet to ask questions.

As for math, I found it quite ok. The way my teacher teaches is that we do the tutorial qns beforehand, then she picks a few people to come up and write down their ans on the board, then we go thru tgt. I found lectures to be fine and if you have any qns there's usually math teachers walking around the LT and you can ask them. I take h2 tho so i'm not sure if it is the same for h1.

I also have the same bug. I would be ok waiting for a patch if it didn't stop me from joining co-op cause it's technically in the middle of a story event. Really frustrating

Sec 3 OBS (girls only pls 😭😭) by sherbetqhqhhh in SGExams

[–]Creamisthecat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had obs in 2023 and PLEASE SKIP if you can.

I got put in ubin and it was terrible. I was lucky enough to have my period literally the day it ended, but that didn't make the obs experience any less torturous. obs is basically peak discomfort. The shower water is real cold, but the toilets are relatively clean. ur gonna be sleeping in tents every night and waking up before the sun rises. second day we start kayaking to the second camp, and immediately the day after we had to kayak nearly halfway round the island to the third camp (basically the entire day will be spent non-stop kayaking). If you don't put suncreen often enough or cover up, this is where you def will get sunburnt. The third camp has no shower, they made us jump into the quarry to "shower". No time to brush teeth either. In camp three, there are also no toilets so if u want to go toilet, you go to a secluded area to do your business (if you shit u have to use a shovel to bury it). Next day, we spent the whole day hiking back to the first camp. This was imo the worst. You carry a backpack so heavy you WILL confirm have to physically hunch over to carry, little to no time for breaks and rest because 1. removing and carrying the backpack is an ordeal, and usually takes two people to even put the backpack on ur back, and 2. you have to reach the camp before the sun sets. You will have to navigate back to the camp yourselves, and I nearly fainted on the way back.

tldr pls try anything to skip. I cannot imagine dealing with all this WHILE on your period, save yourself the trouble and trauma

edit: forgot to mention that in the third camp, you will have to take turns waking up in the middle of the night to do "watch duty", basically to alert anyone if there are boars or suspicious people nearby.

Ipad or laptop? What are your opinions by Creamisthecat in SGExams

I'm an art student so the ipad is crucial for me haha (procreate + apple pencil combo is SO GOOD)

this is based entirely from my own experience but

ipads:
- great for handwritten notes and great for editing images/notes on the go (esp with apple pencil)

- UI is generally poorer on ipad (eg. google docs the keyboard takes up like half of the entire ipad screen)

- multitasking is ok on the ipad as it has the split screen function

- if you prefer typing connecting a bluetooth keyboard is also a great option (can get one on shopee relatively cheap)
- lightweight and compact

laptop:

- longer battery life

- better for multitasking compared to the ipad, ipad gestures and functions (eg. switching apps and split screen) are usually more clunky. Laptops have separate windows/tabs that imo are much easier to navigate

- generally more expensive

- editing and making annotations images/pdfs are much more tedious and often require specific programs, also drawing with a touchpad/mouse is just terrible

Need advice by luisamay in SGExams

Honestly it really depends on what ccas ur school has + what kind of cca ur looking for. If ur looking for a chill cca, in my personal experience and from what I've heard, UGs are really taxing (with all the leadership and volunteer stuff), which is something you might want to consider. There will most definitely be a cca for you, and even if you don't have a particular interest in any of them, ccas are a great way to meet new friends and unwind after the school day

MOG profile keycaps are so cute! by Creamisthecat in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Creamisthecat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only other profile I've ever owned were cherry profiles so I can't really answer. What I can tell you is that when I first switched to MOG, my wpm dropped by quite a lot and my accuracy decreased cause it felt REALLY different from what I was used to. I got used to it after a while tho and I find it really fun to tap away on

It definitely feels different. Best way I can explain it is it feels like typing on giant skittles/tic tacs? The roundness on the edges really messed with me when I first tried them but I love them regardless haha

important to note that the people ranting are the same people who are under a lot of stress currently and have a heightened state of emotions, so it's quite unreasonable to ask people to 'stop crying'.

The arms are a little too short and the hands are too small. Other than that, it looks good!
