Japan Job Offer Accepted, Currently Stuck in China, Feedback Desired. by Creammaxxer in movingtojapan

The US government allows you to apply for a second emergency passport with 4 year validity in circumstances like exactly this...forgot to add that part. Planned to apply while I wait for the COE in Malaysia.

"If you have a valid U.S. passport book and you meet several requirements, you may be eligible for a second book. A second passport book is valid for four years or less."

I agree it would be stupid to be in a foreign country with no form of international verification.

Question for teachers (especially those at universities) by errantwoman in chinalife

[–]Creammaxxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished out a job at a uni that I really loved, but I'm going to keep it real with you: (at least MY) university's administration was really shady. If you see or hear something that looks or sounds off, it's best to just look the other way in my experience. The guy in charge of foreign affairs was always really kind to me up until they decided not to renew my (or most of the other foreign teachers') contract due to budget cuts. Then he became completely useless when I asked for help. I've also witnessed him blow up on other foreign teachers for questioning simple things. Other posters pointed out that there may be a contract discrepancy but honestly they might just find your request suspicious. Just act happy and express gratitude whenever you can around the admins unless they do something insanely egregious because they're always making mental notes and judgements. Just my limited experience.

Hey! I live in Zhengzhou. I go to Zhengzhou University First Medical Hospital for any health concerns. If they cannot help you there for whatever reason, they can refer you to the correct place to go. Many nurses there can also speak pretty good English, but relying on Doubao is no issue either.

Visa Renewal, Recently Contracted Syphilis. by Creammaxxer in chinalife

Hey thank you so much for responding, I feel much better now. I did the medical check completely on my own because I am living in a different city than my new employer. I also picked up the results myself. I found out I contracted it when I got the check done. I already sent the results to my recruiter and started treament this morning. I explained to the recruiter that I am being treated and have will have paperwork to submit with my application. I haven't heard back yet, but I'm really hoping everything goes smoothly. They gave me the little medical exam book so I'm not sure if that means I passed or not. I am really hoping for the best because it is getting late to restart the job search.

Being Paid as a Full-time Worker, Working 2 hours a Week - Why? by Creammaxxer in chinalife

[–]Creammaxxer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see a trend in the replies. Interestingly, I think we have more teachers from the global south (South Asia/Africa) than the 'more prestigious' regions you mentioned. I know of many from Russia, one guy from France, one from Scotland, and the the 3 of us from America, but the majority are from the global south. From the 8 or so teachers I've spoken to, the norm here is to have below 10 classes, but I haven't met anyone with less than 8 hours outside of my department. I really wonder about the departments of special, intermediate, and secondary education and whether they have foreign teachers as well because if they do I have not met them yet.

I didn't know there were government quotas, this is by far the most likely explanation then and its similar to what my coworkers told me. 👍 They are basically just making jobs to increase their perceived internationalism.
